Here’s my thoughts on what #CRJ7 will be thematically: I think it could honestly be titled ‘Pieces’ or something, much like new song we know of (“All the pieces are for you”). If you think about it each teaser is a piece of something. It’s like a collection of fragmented parts, or stories. Also a prominent point in ‘One Life’: “I might fall into a million pieces, I cannot control the things I say.” And it’s very European thus far, there’s a theme of holidaying and escape, but specifically a European summer break-away. This is more artistic and real-world, but the presentation is very clear and there’s a level of restraint in the art direction that mimics the feel of high brow contemporary art in a way. And we know Carly has a love of museum visiting when she’s travelling on a European summer city break, it wouldn’t be surprised to see this as a direct influence. Duality seems to be a reoccurring theme too (day/night website, fleeting emotional states from either extreme. Almost like an intense emotional study of a European holiday gone emotionally sideways or fragmented. Musically as well, we’ve heard a lot of what (at least to me) seems to be off-kilter European indie pop ala Patrik Berger or any flavour of French house / pop / electronic, which ties into both the European theming and emotional inspiration of Carly’s years of travel when writing this record. It’s quite kitschy and quirky feminine chic ! It’s interesting as well the sheer level of confidence that is radiating from these teasers currently. To exercise such restraint, it’s almost like you know the music will be unfathomably good that you don’t need to sell it, it just speaks for itself. Nobody needs to be convinced once they hear it. Carly Rae Jepsen you are so loved and incredible
