For a few years now, I have been sounding the alarm on the crisis of leadership in US healthcare. On the occasion of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, I reflected on the contours of this crisis and the healthcare industry’s silent complicity in the face of massive dysfunction. This complicity has a name: Ethical erosion. As patients express more and more frustration with a system that often hurts more than it heals, the need for introspective and authentic leadership has never been greater. Our findings suggest that language barriers may play a smaller role in whether pts receive preventive services BUT may significantly influence patient understanding and trust. Moreover, strategies to facilitate accompaniment offer a key opp to improve care for this population.

In our new study in @JournalGIM, we show how LEP status and visit accompaniment impact primary care quality: 🔹 Older adults w/ LEP had similar odds of receiving preventive care but ⬇️ patient experience 🔹 Someone accompanying pts w/ LEP to visits was a/w ⬆️ patient experience
