Keeping Mobile Beautiful! Evelyn DeAngelo from KMB joined our 4th grade this morning to teach our kids about the dangers of litter and the benefits of recycling.

Xylem and Phloem! Students observed how colored water traveled through the vascular system of celery as evidence that all living things share similarities.

Brain tricks are so much fun! Our Human Body studies included a trick that made your brain sense that your feet were dropping through the floor, and several other activities that can be tried at home. 🧠🫀🫁🦻🗣️

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis: Students tasted Turkish Delight, a character’s favorite food, then used their Talents Unlimited academic talents to express their “delight” or “dislike” for this exotic treat.

Future engineers learn to problem solve! Problem: Save Bobby (the bobby pin) from crashing. Solution: Design a “Bobby Dropper” that will let him land safely, using natural elements (leaves, flower petals, birds) for inspiration.

Using modeling clay coil pots as a metaphor for the writing process, students learned they must prepare, create, revise, and enhance before "publishing" their final piece.

Students began their year by analyzing real scientists' notebooks so that they could see the importance of keeping good notes this year. #offandrunning

Taxation Without Representation! Ms. Pope’s 4th grade social studies “colonists” were visited by King George III and his tax collectors. The colonists really felt the frustration of having tax laws take away most of their “income”.

Antebellum experience with an authentic hoop skirt- metal rings included! Frankly my dear...it was a lot of fun!

New studies are beginning to pull the arts—music, theater, drawing and painting—back towards the center of the academic curriculum. 🎶🎭🖌️🎨

Time to play! After a hard week of testing, our 4th graders enjoyed some time to learn Chess and match their wits against their classmates.

Things are heating up in Ms. Pope’s class! Students experienced the transfer of heat from their bodies to the hand boilers. Within seconds they could see the liquid inside these objects rise to the top and “boil”. Understanding of CONDUCTION ✅ @MaryBAustin

Necessity is the Mother of Invention! Young entrepreneurs/engineers began an origami business and designed a way to keep their supplies safely stored while they attend other classes.

Chess-igami!! Creativity abounds at Mary B. Austin! These bright girls created origami crane chess pieces to make an awesome game even more fascinating!
