Chuffed that my review of Don DeLillo’s “The Silence” is quoted in the blurb pages of the new paperback edition, a special one that includes an essay by him at the end, “Man at the Window.” Essay’s closing line is trademark DeLillo sublime. @scribnerbooks @hyperallergic

@TheStrickland @_prezidente Excellent summation of the full scope of his tenure, and of how the 2025 stretch ultimately proved particularly indicative of a trajectory towards dismissal despite the sequential successes in the playoffs (quite luck-enhanced, as you point out) this time around. Great piece 💯🏆

Tom Thibodeau broke Leon Rose’s rules. @_prezidente’s latest: a top-down breakdown of why Tom Thibodeau’s exit wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment reflex, rather a culmination of Thibs’ slow departure from Leon’s vision… read below.

heheh. theguardian.com/world/2023/oct… @postuccio "Vittorio Sgarbi, an undersecretary at the culture ministry, art critic and close friend of Berlusconi, said the compulsion for buying art sold through TV auctions began in earnest in 2018 as a result of “sleepless nights”."

FERRARI (Michael Mann, 2023) Unsurprising that this hero’s journey about a domineering visionary stepping over the bodies of his underlings to develop a gas-guzzling luxury product was funded by an authoritarian petrostate, via Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Film Foundation.

@MarkAschParody @intothecrevasse “Why did you leave out ‘Crash’ from the series, Mr. Asch?” “Because obviously. Next question.” “Days of Thunder?” “That’s on Wednesday, do your research.” “Talladega Nights?” “The ENTIRE next series is ‘Talladega Nights’. On loop, like a race track.” “ … ” “No more questions.”

@intothecrevasse screening of WEEKEND [Godard, 1967] will be a 4DX Experience (from inside the theater still being able to hear the skidding of brakes and a sickening thump as a car runs the light on 2nd and 2nd and hits a delivery scooter)

@TheLuisPanini @HorrorJeezus He dissociated himself from it for reasons I’m sure you’ve heard, but it’s great all the same. The dialogue is so recognizably his. Keaton and Downey Jr deliver it well.

@postuccio @HorrorJeezus Paul, I haven’t seen Game 6. I should. I think he’s an outstanding playwright and doesn’t get any credit for it. The ranking was a tough exercise, especially because he is an author with a brilliant output.

I spent the last 9 months reading the complete works of Don DeLillo. Here’s my PERSONAL ranking. Just because I placed a book in the middle or near the bottom of the pile doesn’t mean I didn’t like it. The man has authored one of the most solid bodies of work in American letters.

@TheLuisPanini @HorrorJeezus Thought the anecdote slid in well here. Thanks for the stack. I’ve also read ‘em all. Ranking them would probably require me to argue with myself and rerank them over and over. Plays and short stories as brilliant as the novels. (Btw, ever seen Game 6? Roots of Cosmopolis…)

@TheLuisPanini @HorrorJeezus I’ve been fortunate to attend several DeLillo readings over the years. The first was a relatively small gathering at Princeton. During questions, someone posed the all-too-expected one, “Whose books do you read?” He zagged, replied instantly: “Read Cormac McCarthy.” Bosses, both.

@HorrorJeezus I need to do a McCarthy read through. Underworld is fantastic. I understand why so many people rank it as number one.
