@Metal_Crow 99.9% of the incel discourse is people using the word as a slur. Self-identifying incels who are the misogynistic boogeyman, by and large, *do not exist*, and have no meaningful community or subculture. It's just a way for people to reinforce the high school dynamics again.

Our DiffEq launch is special for me because I've been frustrated with DE pedagogy for a long time. This is the course that I wish I and all of my tutoring students had taken. When I took DiffEq in undergrad, it was taught as part of an Abstract Algebra class. Abstract Algebra. Let that sink in. The official title of the course was Algebra 1, and the way that DiffEq was taught in Algebra 1 was kind of like this: "Speaking of algebraic structures, let's learn about metric spaces. By the way, differential equations is a thing you can do in metric spaces. Linear independence, Wronskian, yadda yadda. Memorize these proofs. Okay, moving on!" They said were doing some kind of revamp / reorganization of their math courses, and maybe they were trying to do some kind of "integrated" sequence. But the bottom line is they gave DiffEq responsibilities to a hardcore algebraist who didn't want to teach it -- so he didn't. Not really. Now, I knew my own DiffEq experience was completely whacko, straight out of Alice in Wonderland, but I didn't expect that so many other people's DiffEq experiences would be whacko in a different way. When I did a bunch of tutoring, and talked to people taking DE elsewhere, I realized that pretty much everyone who teaches DiffEq has a different conception of what DiffEq covers. I mean, sure, there's a common thread up through 2nd-order homogeneous ODEs via characteristic polynomial, but beyond that, DiffEq class is like a box of chocolates and you never know what you're gonna get. I had always assumed that most people taking DE courses were learning it fairly comprehensively: integrating factors, undetermined coefficients, variation of parameters, oscillators, Cauchy-Euler, Bernoulli, systems, Runge-Kutta, power series solutions, Laplace transforms, Fourier series, eigenfunctions, Lotka-Volterra (predatory-prey model), phase portraits, etc. But what would typically happen instead is, after covering those 2nd-order homogeneous ODEs via characteristic polynomial, the course would shoot off into whatever direction was most applicable to the instructor's research interest. And it wouldn't cover all the other foundational stuff that you would reasonably be expected to know if you took a solid DE course. Anyway, it feels nice to finally put out a DiffEq course that's comprehensive and well-scaffolded with plenty of concrete examples.

@DrThomasAG @spencerinvestor Most originally didn't care for surgery on its own, but merely saw it as a means to an end. You could produce a couple of cringy "ascension" edits with some angsty music showing the effectiveness of your intervention.

Really? That's actually super interesting. Thanks for correcting me. I still think there's more psychotherapist skepticism such that if I produced some hard data of successes + client feedback, incels would be more skeptical of me than a surgeon doing the same. There's also a misalignment of goals. Surgeon will change the jaw, incel wants the jaw changed. Surgeon doesn't actually care about the incels ultimate goal and whether the jaw surgery is linked to the goal. When I do therapy, I am interested in the incel's ultimate goal, but we're at complete odds on how to get there. And the misunderstanding of how to get there is actually a core symptom of the problem.

The #1 response from redpilled men to my post yesterday encouraging men to consider the downsides of dating apps for both sexes was something like: Why should I empathise with women? They are like trillionaires complaining to a homeless person that their lobster is too buttery. This is a prime example of how the manosphere gets things completely wrong and the type of things I have to help men who want to take the "clear pill" to unpick. Women get thousands of messages on dating apps, even though the sex ratio is not a thousand to one. Most of those messages are from men trying their luck only interested in casual sex. Men would love to be in that position. Because men typically value casual sex more than women, but find it harder to access. Women don't love to be in that position because they don't need apps to find casual sex and typically have less of a desire for it. In fact, the sex difference in desire for casual sex is one of the largest sex differences in psychology, found in every culture studied. Instead, they are trying to find long term mating interest among a legion of men looking for casual sex and getting dissapointed. To extend the analogy, women aren't complaining their lobster is too buttery. They're complaining that they don't really like seafood to begin with but keep having it offered to them because men think "I love and value lobster so you must do as well!"

@DrThomasAG @spencerinvestor PSL types where a reaction to failures with non surgical interventions. There were many debates on which interventions work. Surgery and looks ended up being the consensus winner due natural examples (Meeks etc) and posters (who got surgery and succes)

@DrThomasAG @spencerinvestor They said exactly "But I don't want general aesthetic". There were huge discussions about which surgeons where "blackpilled" and willing to do surgeries that optimized for the "maesthetic" look. Members were very distrustful of surgeons.

I can understand why you think that way. But did the incels who "flocked" to "Zarrinbal" say things like "But I don't want general anesthetic", or "Can't trust surgeons, they might imprison you while you're under", or "Surgery is just a way of jews to control you"? Incels put up many more barriers for therapy than looksmaxxing stuff. This includes conspiracy beliefs. See out latest paper in Journal of Psychotherapy Research.

@DrThomasAG @spencerinvestor Surgeons like zarrinbal got way more customers from incel forums, because they believed he was slightly better at a type of jaw surgery. If a therapist can provide evidence of the success of their interventions incels would flock to them

My PhD student is doing interviews with men and women as part of a study into the singlehood experience. If you're a single British male, aged 18-25 who would describe themselves as either very happy (5 out of 5) or very unhappy (1 out of 5) being single, then DM me.

@pp_tmp80431 @wentz117 @apralky it seems like millions of zoomer males already larp being forum oldcels - and this will accelerate. But yea you're right I dont think there's a realistic mechanism for one to have any gain. Maybe social capital. Maybe in time of zoomer chud government something more

If you were on the original Lookism/Looksmax forums you'll be aware that toward the end of it people were starting to update their "mental models" for the fact that once you control for the low-class and low-quality overrepresentation in your sample of mating trends, status/social class starts to massively outperform physical attractiveness in predictive capacity, so focus had started to shift toward analyzing the former a lot more at the cost of the latter If we're to assume that this is broadly how it's gonna play out now that these things have entered the mainstream, we can make an educated guess that within a year or so we'll just move on from looksmaxxing and circle back to good old fashioned class analysis and 19th-20th century social theory from first principles

@seanluomdphd @FWPlayboy It's only enjoyable if you have some sort of success. Very few people continue to work out after 3 years if they only ever gained 10 kg from their starting bench press

@FWPlayboy In my clinical experience, people who say this end up enjoying dating after a decent amount of experience. Dating is a skill and, in a sense, a hobby. Once you get better at it you enjoy it more. Same can be said about marriage which is nothing more than dating you wife.

Vast MAJORITY of Men HATE HATE HATE girls, attraction, dating, texting, talking to girls, meeting up, escalation, sex. They find girls to be confusing, stressful, unpredictable, time consuming, and frustrating. THIS is why MOST Men marry the first girl who gives them a crumb of pussy.
