@growthzacks Do you allocate budget towards repeat customers or talking email/organic targeting?

The biggest mistake in marketing is stopping the analysis after the first purchase.   Most marketers look at acquisition metrics, celebrate a low CAC, and move on.   But acquisition only tells you how someone entered the business.   It doesn't tell you what happened next.   The interesting question many don't think about is this: What do customers actually do after you acquire them?   That's where cohort analysis becomes useful.   A cohort doesn't just tell you how much revenue a group generated. It shows the story over time.   You can see who bought a second time, who never came back, and how purchasing behavior changes over time.   I've seen brands assume they have strong LTV because the cumulative returning revenue number looks good.   Then they look at the cohort data and realize repeat purchases fall off much faster than expected.   The second purchase was doing most of the work, and after that, the curve gets pretty thin.   Without that context, acquisition metrics can be misleading.   A $50 CAC means something very different if customers buy again next month vs. never purchase again.   The first purchase tells you whether you can acquire customers.   The cohort tells you what those customers are actually worth.   If you're only looking at acquisition data, you're reading the first chapter and assuming you know the ending.

@unusual_whales tbh... iran is smarter than us. the us could wipe iran off the map today if it wanted. but iran knows we could never do so without a 9/11 type event. they are just playing guerilla war type geopolitics without concern for short term destruction in their country.

common google ads mistake: kill the $1 CPC keyword after $100 spent and 0 conversions. scale the $100 CPC keyword after $1,000 spent and 1 conversion. all that is, is not letting the cheap keyword spend the same $1K to see if it could match the same cost/conversion.

@Pete_Bowen indeed. if google wants a future without ads managers they need to protect an accounts backside.

@ppcClickShark That's actually a brilliant suggestion. Obviously we've all got starter negs that we apply to most accounts but this would go so much further.

google could hand you a starter negative list, or auto-apply category-level exclusions, at launch, using nothing but what it already knows from every other account in your vertical. but you know... profit.

@Invested_In_You flying first class is not a daily expense. if you are discussing why your life would/would not change the cost of flying should not enter the equation.

Last night my wife and I had a conversation about money and we came to the conclusion that not much would change if we had a lot more money. Even if we made $10m+ a year. Sure, we would fly first class when we travel but our life would not change dramatically. We would struggle to spend high six figures or 7 figures a year. Being content with where we are feels like a massive blessing.

@MediaKing You could argue the Dodgers. High payroll and consistently develop talent. But that type of system is rare and nearly impossible to replicate.

@MediaKing Tend to agree. Think baseball. Look at the Rays. Consistently hungry for developing young talent and see results. And look at the Mets under Steve Cohen (finance guy). High payroll, poor results.

Everything that makes a consumer brand great gets ruined by too much capital. Ruthless cost cutting. A fanatical obsession with acquiring customers profitably. Fast reactions when a supplier fails or a shipment slips or the ad platform breaks. The best brands fix those in hours, not weeks. Too much money lets you sit and wait out the storm, except sometimes it isn't a storm, it's the new normal. Plenty of brands stopped spending on ads in 2021 and just never started again. Small, nimble, aggressive beats a big war chest. More money isn't the answer. Better ads are.

Contrarian Hot Take. NEVER take a free audit. ALWAYS make it a paid project. Fair value for money. And make it clear up front that the agency/person doing the audit will NEVER get any ongoing work for at least a year. If you're auditing my situation, I want your BEST and UNBIASED advice. Not a report that tells me you could do better. I made this a personal rule about a decade ago and never once regretted it.
Derek Mollins@ppcClickShark

a "free audit," is the biggest scam in marketing. consider the marketers incentive. they want to win your business. anyone can find "mistakes," in an account and spin the data to make the current marketer look bad.

An opt-in on a call funnel is almost always just friction That extra step drops the number of people who make it through and quietly inflates your cost per call Unless your setters are genuinely printing money off people who opt in but never apply, kill it
