On March 9, 2026, a rare Mediterranean monk seal was found dead in Karaburun, Vlora. In cooperation with veterinarians and the RAPA Vlora, the animal was retrieved for necropsy; collected samples will help study threats and support marine mammal conservation.

Tracking wild animals helps us understand their movements, behaviour and population dynamics, and to take better measures to protect habitats. As part of the 4PETHABECO project, with the support of the European Union, PPNEA is studying the way these animals live, focusing on the lynx, bear, wolf and jackal. Today, on World Wildlife Day, biologists share the findings of the study. 1/2

🐺🌍 At the International Large Carnivores Habitat Management Conference (25–27 February) in Tirana, held within the 4PETHABECO Project under the Interreg IPA ADRION Programme, our director, Dr. @OliverAvramoski, presented IUCN’s systemic approach to conserving #ecological #connectivity.
