TOMOYA, the leader of NEXZ, is undeniably the most eye-catching presence on stage. Freely moving between the roles of main vocalist and main dancer, he has no hesitation in introducing himself as an "all-rounder". His solid foundation comes from his childhood, when he made a name for himself in Japan's street dance scene and won numerous battle trophies. Since participating in the lyrics for their debut mini album in 2024, he has continued to evolve, now taking on lyrics, composition, and arrangement. Behind his gentle face, his eyes curving into crescent moons when he smiles, lies a passion and hunger hotter than anyone else's.
• A HAPPY LEADER
I may be the team's leader but honestly I owe a lot to the members. If it weren't for them, I wouldn't have made it this far. In a foreign place, we support each other like strong pillars, and above all, every single one of them is incredibly hardworking. Even after early morning schedules, they head back to the practice room as if it's a promise. Watching that, even me as the leader think "wow, they’re really amazing" and it pushes me to stay focused. Thanks to teammates who never give me a chance to slack off, I get even more fired up.
• MY FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH DANCE
On my 4th birthday, my father gave me a Michael Jackson concert DVD, that was the very first scene of my life's story. They say that after kindergarten, I would spend the whole day dancing in front of the TV. In elementary school, I devoted my life to street dance. I traveled all over Japan to compete in battles and experienced the competitive world early on by winning trophies one by one. Those experiences shaped my strong competitive spirit today. I learned how to accept defeat gracefully despite the frustration, and also felt the thrilling joy of winning. Knowing how sweet the results of hard work can be, I keep pushing myself to the very end no matter how tough it gets.
• SOURCES OF INSPIRATION
HARU, HYUI, and I take the lead in writing and composing. From toplines to lyrics to choreography, creating everything ourselves is NEXZ's unique strength. Lately we've also been doing song camps with producers, and we're confident because the tracks we've come up with are pretty solid. Of course there are struggles too. Since I started training as a trainee in middle school, I realized my life experiences are much more limited compared to others. Feeling that my emotions and expression might be lacking, I've been consciously watching more films these days. I used to be drawn to flashy action or animation, but now I watch movies about real life and even write down memorable lines. I also analyze music charts to understand public taste, and on my days off, I sometimes go to crowded cafes just to observe people. Maybe this whole process itself is the journey of becoming a real adult and a true artist.
• PREPARING OUR COMEBACK
With our previous mini album, many people got to know NEXZ for the first time. The more love we received, the more I feel a sense of responsibility to show even greater growth than before, but it's a kind of pressure that feels like excitement. To overcome that weight, we're preparing more intensely than ever, both in lessons and practice. This upcoming album will fully capture who NEXZ is right now. If our past activities were about proving how skilled we are as a team, now it feels like it'S time to establish a unique color that only NEXZ can have.
• "LET'S LIVE AS TODAY WERE THE LAST DAY OF YOUR LIFE"
When I remind myself of this, most difficulties don't feel like much. Thinking that today could be the end actually gives me greater courage. I go on stage as if every performance is the last of my life. With that mindset, I don't have anu regrets. Even if I make mistakes, I can comfort myself by saying "it's okay, I gave everything as if it were my last".
