Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur oPt
#WhenTheWorldSleeps Palestine stands as the moral compass of our time. Exposing Apartheid and its crimes, their root causes and implications, is necessary to ensure the world "wake up" and work together to overcome it. Together we can and we will.
Bookshop, NY@Paysferemart

When the World Sleeps: Stories, Words, and Wounds of Palestine by Francesca Albanese The first woman to serve as United Nations Special Rapporteur for the Occupied Palestinian Territory conveys the spirit of a people through 10 unforgettable stories of resilience and humanity. Francesca Albanese is the most lucid voice against Israel’s apartheid policies in Gaza and the West Bank, a voice that has been heard around the world when it comes to speaking the truth about the Palestinian genocide. In the wake of October 7, 2023, and Israel’s retaliatory war, the renowned Italian jurist has become a lightning rod for her staunch defense of human rights.  Reflecting on her years living in Jerusalem and her personal and professional journey toward understanding the Palestinian struggle, Albanese pays tribute to 10 people whose profoundly affecting stories opened her eyes, from Hind Rajab, a young Palestinian girl killed by Israeli forces, to the remarkable Jewish scholars who acted as Albanese’s mentors: forensic architect Eyal Weizman, trauma expert Gabor Maté, and Holocaust historian Alon Confino. When the World Sleeps is a courageous testimony of the harsh reality that Palestinians face. It raises critical questions about the past, present, and future of Palestine: What are the consequences of the occupation? Where is a refugee’s home? In what conditions do Palestinians live? With the uncertain end of the war, will there be a Palestinian state? Will Palestinians have the right to self-determination, and will they be able to live in peace, free at last from the coercion of Israel? *4 tests, 1 question: Did SIR shape Bengal outcome?* We carried out four tests — each stricter than the last — to find exactly where the relationship between SIR deletions and election results holds, and where it breaks down. newslaundry.com/2026/05/07/4-t…

How the Hindu Is Embedding AI Into Its Data Journalism, by Neha Gupta • April 10, 2026 gijn.org/stories/the-hi… wan-ifra.org/event_speakers… Integrating Artificial Intelligence into data journalism workflows is taking off in India. The Hindu, a legacy newspaper & media organisation founded in September 1978, is a pioneer in this field. It leads in the diversity of storytelling through data journalism that covers issues ranging across politics, political economy, public policy, public health, international affairs, and sports. “We want a more informed audience. This kind of work helps us move in that direction. Across projects, AI does not replace journalistic judgement. It expands the scale at which it can operate.” In this article originally published by the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) and reprinted here with permission by the Global Investigative Journalism Network, Srinivasan Ramani, Deputy National Editor and Senior Associate Editor of The Hindu, speaks to Neha Gupta, WAN-IFRA’s Research Editor, on the work in progress and the results that have been achieved, adding real value to journalism.

"In our neighbourhood, a single photocopy now costs Rs 10-15, up from the usual Rs 2, because of the SIR." Most of us will never understand the pain this SIR has unleashed on migrant workers who are used to working on sick days to make sure they don't lose wage. Here they have lost days worth of earnings in trying to prove that they are Indian citizens — because that's what this exercise has turned into. The Supreme Court may casually say well they can vote next time but they have no clue what an identity crisis the SIR has unleashed on ground. People feel they will be deported, sent to Bangladesh or won’t find work if they are struck off the voter list — and they are right because this is what they face in Delhi or Gurgaon. The SIR has to be seen with the ‘ghuspetiya narrative’ where your very right to live in India has been questioned. People genuinely believe they won’t be able to live or earn here if they won’t vote. newslaundry.com/2026/04/17/ben…
