The resignation of the Education Minister is an acknowledgment that accountability in a democracy cannot be indefinitely evaded. It comes after weeks of determined, peaceful voices raised by students, parents and citizens across the country who refused to be ignored. It also comes after far too many young Indians faced unnecessary police brutality and force for exercising their democratic right to peaceful protest. That should concern every citizen, regardless of political affiliation. But accountability does not end with a resignation. The deeper failures that brought us here must now be addressed through transparent reforms, institutional responsibility and a commitment to ensuring that no young Indian’s future is jeopardised again. The students who marched, spoke out and peacefully persisted deserve to know that this is the beginning of reform, not the end of the story.

@ShashiTharoor These whole movement is a white wash like in nirbhaya case , strict laws came but still rapes are going up . So just changing a person on post will not help but collective effort working on the root cause and that nobody is talking about

I am relieved that Sonam @Wangchuk66 has ended his fast and I wish him a full and speedy recovery. His extraordinary sacrifice has helped bring national attention to a crisis that should never have been ignored. But let us be clear: the end of a hunger strike is not the end of this struggle. The fight for a fair, transparent and accountable education system continues. The students who have raised their voices deserve justice, not silence. As I have said before, I will continue to echo their voice wherever I can: in the media, in Parliament, and on every democratic platform available to me. Our institutions must listen, because democracy is strongest when it responds to the hopes and concerns of its young people.

INTERESTING: Suddenly, celebrities from different fields are expressing concern over the state of our education system and solidarity with students—in strikingly similar language. GOOD. 👍 But will they now walk the talk? Many of India’s A++ have educated their own children abroad. How many will use their influence to help fix the system here, instead of merely posting about it?
