📢 PRC delivered an oral intervention before the United Nations Human Rights Council under Item 7 of the agenda, during the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, Francesca Albanese, highlighting grave violations and atrocities committed against Palestinian detainees from Gaza inside Israel’s secret detention facilities. The intervention was delivered on behalf of PRC by lawyer Khaled Mahajneh, a human rights lawyer, who presented a direct testimony from inside “Sde Teiman” detention camp in the Negev desert, one of the secret detention facilities established by Israeli authorities at the outset of the war on Gaza. Mahajneh explained that he entered the camp in his capacity as a lawyer and left carrying a live testimony of a reality that “defies logic and imagination,” documenting methods of torture and abuse inflicted on Palestinian civilian detainees from Gaza, including physical and psychological torture, sexual violence, and systematic assaults on human dignity. 🔗 Details: prc.org.uk/en/post/5244

📢A new paper submitted by the PRC to the United Nations addressed the humanitarian and human rights implications arising from austerity measures affecting the (UNRWA) in Lebanon, particularly the reduction of salaries and working hours for locally recruited staff, and the resulting direct impact on the continuity of essential services provided to Palestine refugees, most notably education, primary healthcare, and social assistance. PRC called on the Human Rights Council and Member States to ensure sustainable, adequate, and predictable funding for UNRWA, safeguard its UN-mandated role, protect the rights of its locally recruited staff, and strengthen international and civil society efforts to reaffirm the Agency’s indispensable role in protecting the rights of Palestine refugees. 🔗Details: prc.org.uk/en/post/5236
