@jtruk @peckhamdigital Crestfallen-I'll be in the area 10 days too late 🫤. Such a missed chance of learning and starting some retro collab over a pint! Will any video| materials|... be made available? Congrats on making the cut for Peckham Digital [edited for mistranslation]

@cayetanaAT Muy bueno, gracias.

We shall never surrender. Aquí, el teletipo urgente.

@8BitShowAndTell *Maybe* for games, but hard disagree with the "(and other software)" part of that statement. Programming and hacking cartridges (Final, Freeze Frame, etc) were big.

@salt11949 @8BitShowAndTell (2/2) When development moved to France, Orics could have grown into the national initiative Informatique pour Tous (computing at every school), where 8-bitters were connected by nanoréseaux-early LANs!

@salt11949 @8BitShowAndTell (1/2)The Oric Atmos was innovative in its software (in ROM). Had a neat Basic and intriguing possibilities for low-level programming. But the hardware had been poorly designed, and, independently, the ideas never landed at a successful company.

Kind of unexpectedly, Radio Shack once sold Commodore 16 keyboards as a $4.95 "Special Purchase!". They helpfully provided a wiring diagram on the package with an interesting take on the Commodore symbol.

@tic_computer Sorry if this is peripheral: what are people using to run #TIC80 games on iOS? (whether the games were developed on desktop or using something like this)

Lately, one thought has been haunting me: is it even possible to transfer the development of #TIC80 games to mobile devices? To finally put my mind at ease, I decided to develop a small proof of concept and this is how it looks like at the initial stage on my tablet.

@jeayewilkerson Syntax parity with Clojure went from 42% to 80% in ~18 months. Very impressive, although still a reasonably long way from becoming stable

@borkdude Is the problem correlated at all with you having run compute-intensive stuff shortly before shutting the PC down? If so, maybe cooling problem. If not, it may still be a cooling problem--try keeping an eye on CPU, GPU, etc temperature while running your usual workloads.

The PC I built in 2020 (after baking bread another Corona hype...) doesn't power on, unless I unplug it for 10-15 minutes and then plug it back in. What could this be? Faulty power supply?

@mrdoornbos (last/2) ...and have the discipline to use them correctly, then footguns can become irrelevant. Older CPUs don't aggressively cache, branch-predict, etc. so the overhead of threading code is less significant. Check out White Lightning Forth for the C64.

@mrdoornbos (1/2) Game development, concretely. On underpowered (for today's standards) 8-bit CPUs, Forth's much more efficient than Basic. Also much more expressive as a lang: if you build safe abstractions like arrays, diff flavors of local vars, etc...👇

Okay, FORTH language people, what problem areas is FORTH particularly well suited for? I'm past the super beginner stages and ready to apply it to a problem area to see how I feel about it.
