Photo of my cofounder and I back when we were just two college kids at Berkeley. I was on track to graduate with a double major in CS and Math, and had multiple full-time offers lined up. Then we got into @alliance. We decided to go all in on building @predexon. I dropped the math major and graduated that semester with just a CS degree. School teaches you to maximize optionality. Startups are about deliberately giving most of it up.

Met a young 44-year-old named Alex yesterday. He wants to build a prediction market trading bot. Maybe even a full trading desk. He’s eager to get started. Relax, I said. Think in decades, not quarters. First spend a few years decoding contracts and rebuilding the data the official APIs forgot to expose. Then move into a period of quiet reflection maintaining archive nodes, websocket infra, and backfilling historical orderbooks. After that, manually match equivalent markets across venues in CSV files so you can figure out whether two markets are actually the same event. Give it enough time, and one day, maybe in your early 60s, you’ll finally be ready to think about alpha. Thoughts on the roadmap I laid out for him?

Sports markets probably have the hardest integrity requirements of any prediction market category. You’re building on top of a live game with leagues, players, insiders, and huge information asymmetries. So it makes sense that the integrity stack matters. Polymarket data could become a major signal here - and an additional revenue line.

Polymarket empirical data markets can be a goldmine. The underlying asset often has rich, liquid data elsewhere, so you can model fair value there and then trade against a smaller, less liquid orderbook mostly driven by retail order flow. Same signal, weaker market. That’s alpha.
