🇨🇩 A new Ebola outbreak in northeastern Congo has killed 65 people and infected hundreds. The outbreak in Ituri Province has recorded 246 suspected cases. Preliminary results suggest it's a non-Zaire strain, meaning the standard Ebola vaccine used in previous outbreaks is likely ineffective against it. The WHO is now warning that countries neighbouring the DRC are at “high risk” from the Ebola outbreak and need to take “immediate action”. The epidemic is reportedly outpacing response efforts, with the latest suspected death toll now at 220. This is the Bundibugyo strain with no approved vaccine currently available.
