For a few years now, I've stopped commenting on Kashmir for various reasons. One, there's nothing left to say that hasn't been said already. Second, after the removal of Article 370 and the release of The Kashmir Files, so-called nationalist Hindus have become subject matter experts themselves, so they don't tolerate any opinion that would dampen their high spirits and optimism regarding the valley. Three, as a Kashmiri Pandit, I find it absurd to lecture others when people from my own community behave as if all is hunky dory in Kashmir, go there like clueless tourists and convey the impression that our exodus was due to a big misunderstanding with our same dna brothers created by Pakistan. At any rate, it is fascinating how Kashmir figures in popular Hindu imagination, drawing in equal measure from bollywood fantasies and media propaganda. But why Kashmiri Pandits themselves fall for the propaganda despite having a first-hand living experience is a lesson to be learnt (as an aside, it reaffirms why anubhava is not the supreme pramāna in classical Hindu thought). The Kashmir conflict is a complex geopolitical conundrum that can be accurately summed up in a short and crisp paragraph. Kashmir is a civilisational conflict (sorry for the ad nauseum repetition) and what we see happening today is the fructification of centuries of socio-political and religious churn. However, we interpret events to suit our biases and limited attention spans, which force us to conjure up make-believe explanations that grant us the illusion of agency. The truth is we have none, for the Indian State is not an ally of Hindus and Hinduism, regardless of which party is in power. Watching the pictures and videos of the hapless Hindu victims in Pahalgam, I feel compelled to write, if only to lessen the burden of pain. But I write this with the hope that it will reach one, two or a thousand people who will read and reflect on my sincere piece of advice and hopefully follow it. Do not listen to cricket stars, bollywood celebrities, social media influencers, journalists, litfest evangelists, travel agents and most of all, politicians, who entice and tempt you to fill the gaping hole of boredom in your life with the chance to make beautiful memories. Remember that the money you spend there will find its way to fund another Pahalgam someday. There will be blood on your hands and the stain will stay forever, whether you acknowledge it or not.

IC 814 की हाइजैकिंग मैंने लगातार 7 दिन LIVE स्टूडियो से देखी और देश-दुनिया को दिखाई थी. तब मैं Zee News में बतौर ऐंकर काम कर रहा था. उस वक़्त देश में सिर्फ़ दो ही न्यूज़ चैनल होते थे - ज़ी न्यूज़ और स्टार न्यूज़. 7 दिन और 7 रातें…24 घंटे की कवरेज थी. 24 दिसंबर से 31 दिसंबर 1999 तक के वो 7 दिन देश पर कितने भारी गुज़रे, इसका अंदाज़ा वही लगा सकता है जो उस दौर में होश संभाल चुका था. अनुभव सिन्हा की सीरीज़ IC 814 बड़ी उम्मीदों से देखी…न तो उसमें वो गहराई महसूस हुई और न ही उसमें देश और पीड़ितों के साथ न्याय किया गया है. उस समय की सरकार की नाकामी सही दिखाई गई है लेकिन उन आतंकवादियों में इंसानियत दिखाना बेईमानी है, उनके असली मुस्लिम नाम अंत तक छुपाना और बड़ी बेईमानी है. हां, वो कोड-नेम थे पर आपकी ज़िम्मेदारी थी कि सारे तथ्य बताते…शुरू से बताते. ISI को क्लीन चिट क्यों दी गई है, समझ से परे है…सिर्फ़ इसलिए कि लादेन ने ISI वालों को बाद की पार्टी में नहीं बुलाया, उनके पाप धो दिये गये…!!! तब के विदेश मंत्री जसवंत सिंह जी ने ख़ुद लिखा था कि ISI वाले तीनों छुड़वाये गये आतंकियों मौलाना मसूद अजहर, मुश्ताक अहमद जरगर और अहमद उमर सईद शेख के परिवार वालों को कंदहार ले गये थे…छोड़ने पर इन आतंकियों की पहचान करने के लिए…पहचान के बाद ही हमारे यात्रियों को छोड़ा गया. पूरा प्लॉट पाकिस्तान का ही था. पाकिस्तान-ISI का पूरा सच पता नहीं क्यों नहीं बताया गया…पाक के नॉन-स्टेट ऐक्टर्स की थ्योरी को जान बूझ कर बल दिया गया या अनजाने में? जब पूरी सीरीज़ में बार-बार कहानी का फ़्लो तोड़ कर तथ्य और बैकग्राउंड बताने के लिए नरेशन का सहारा लिया गया है, तो चीफ़, डॉक्टर, बर्गर, भोला और शंकर के असली नाम भी बताते…बताते चलते कि - चीफ़ का असली नाम था इब्राहिम अतहर था डॉक्टर का असली नाम शाहिद अख़्तर सईद था बर्गर का असली नाम सनी अहमद क़ाज़ी भोला का असली नाम ज़हूर मिस्त्री था शंकर का असली नाम शाकिर था ये भी ढंग से बताते कि सारे के सारे हाईजैकर्स पाकिस्तानी थे… उल्टे आतंकियों को यात्रियों से अन्ताक्षरी खेलते दिखाया है…यात्रियों की फ़िक्र-मदद करते भी दिखाया है…!!! अनुभव सिन्हा को सामने आ कर रिसर्च-तथ्यों पर हर सवाल का जवाब देना चाहिए…इस सीरीज़ में उपयुक्त बदलाव करने चाहियें ताकि आज और आगे की पीढ़ियाँ सही इतिहास जान सकें. पीड़ितों के बारे में भी थोड़ा सोचा होता…बहुत कुछ नहीं बताया… Anubhav Sinha | #AnubhavSinha #IC814 #IC814TheKandaharHijack

I don’t give a shit to ‘if Congress was in power, how the budget would be’, I am more concerned with who is ruling now and how the fuck they get to suck my blood to fund the endless schemes and I get ‘punya’. You remove angel tax and introduce devilish increments elsewhere. This government is so cut off from reality that it believes people who earn 7 lakhs, can survive in tier 2-3 cities, take care of their parents and send their kids to good school. Well, that doesn’t happen. You can’t control education fees, the cost of books and uniforms and so on! What exactly is middle class getting? Are your government schools up to any good? Are your government hospitals in small cities not in shitty conditions? You are basically asking everyone to come to metros for good education and health. Creating AIIMS, IITs and IIMs is great, but are they comparable to the old ones? Do you have the same quality there? So, please tell me where the hell should these honest taxpayers go? May be we should all collectively buy tractors and march to Delhi, so that one fine day these stupid tax rates, which are not in sync with inflation or spending, are revised. #Budget2024

@_SophieSchol Bang on observation. If I may add my two cents here. The major storyline is set in 1945, and they are talking 'bout how India should take part in WWII or face the wrath of Hitler. Oh, bhaisahab, WWII was over in '45. Quit India was over in 42, but everyone is talking about it.

Just watched Heeramandi. Found everything but heermandi in it. I mean either you don’t set your story in 1940’s Lahore, or if you do- you don’t set it in Agra’s landscape, Delhi’s Urdu, Lakhnavi dresses and 1840’s vibe. My not-so-sorry Lahori self can’t really let it go.
