It's great that doctors like you, @AnupSubedee and others are taking interest in society and politics... But your focus should always remain on medicine to serve us all

But we should also add 'from a smaller base' :)
Alunir@i_alunir

@premdhakal We can look at it both ways but Nepals growth rate was definitely better than Bhutan.

On the other hand, it's far easier to lift earnings of a smaller population. So, any kind of comparison has to be nuanced

It is not that simple. Growing (in % term) is always harder from a bigger base. So, we were not actually catching up. It was still widening. Analyzed that way, we added just over 1000$ when they added over 2100$. But, yes I agree that the narrative that it was all doom is wrong
Alunir@i_alunir

GDP per capita of Nepal in 2007 - 380$ GDP per capita of Bhutan in 2007 - 1850$ that is 5X Nepal In 2026 it’s just 2.5X based on this number. Actual value 2-3X We were catching up fast.

Yeah, still working-out... With the bad genes I come with, I actually don't have any options :)
Trailokya Raj Aryal@trailokyararyal

@premdhakal Eons..and I am doing well, how about you? Still working out? 😀 I know we’re in disagreement here, but this is just me being me: As far as I know, the only real US leverage on Nepal is through the Nepal Army — but it’s more like Israel’s relationship with the Lebanese Army in +

I understand difference between Newsom and Gor. I was pointing how even Xi is flexible. He's met many non-ministers from US. Newsom was just an example. He even met Kissinger What I'm saying is there should be no rigid Minister or no-one bar... Kapur shouldn't be snubbed
Truth Trader@TraderDoktor7

@premdhakal The politics of meeting Gavin Newsom and Gor is completely different. Newsom is democrat's presidential candidate. No need to meet Gor, his role is limited to India, not Nepal. You meet Gor then floodgates open. Immature take from a smart person!

You seem to believe that the US has no leverage whatsoever over Nepal. But like you said let's agree to disagree on this!!! Ani how's everything? It's been eons, saathi
Trailokya Raj Aryal@trailokyararyal

@premdhakal As things stand right now, Trump cannot really do anything significant in Nepal — except maybe bombing us into oblivion or the CIA getting rid of Balen. But Balen hasn’t done anything against the US or American interests (which are pretty much non-existent in Nepal anyway)+

I can see that. But the way to tackle that is adopting a balanced foreign policy, not shunning their overtures. I'm OK with not willy-nilly meeting all residential envoys. But to say I will meet only a minister is not wise. There's nothing wrong in meeting Kapur or even Gor
Trailokya Raj Aryal@trailokyararyal

@premdhakal and I don’t think Trump would go for either option. The Chinese and Americans both have their hands deep in Nepal, but you don’t seem to see it, and that’s fine. A special envoy specifically for Nepal? Maybe. Jared Kushner? Possibly. But a general special envoy for the +

So, what is wrong with meeting Special Envoys from India and China? Yeah, the sky won't fall. The likes of Trump, Xi and Modi can't do anything even if they're pissed as Nepal is the sole superpower in the world
Trailokya Raj Aryal@trailokyararyal

And nothing will happen. The sky won’t fall and the earth won’t shatter if Balen doesn’t meet Gor. The US has no real economic or strategic interests in Nepal. If Trump is really pissed, he can stop or delay the MCC funding — but I don’t see that happening either.
