Our paper “Exponential Quantum Advantage in Processing Massive Classical Data” proves that quantum machines can solve common machine learning tasks using exponentially less memory than a classical machine would require. Much further work will be needed to translate this theory into practice. But because modern AI is often hampered by insufficient memory, this finding bolsters our confidence that quantum AI can eventually have a broad impact on daily life. This project was led by the remarkable Caltech student @haimengzhao and inspired by the vision of @RobertHuangHY, with essential contributions from all our collaborators. Here Haimeng tells the story. quantumfrontiers.com/2026/04/09/unl…

⚛ Can small quantum computers accelerate AI on massive classical data? Yes! I am absolutely thrilled to share our new work proving *honest* exponential quantum advantages in broadly applicable classical tasks. 🧵👇 Paper: arxiv.org/abs/2604.07639 Blog: quantumfrontiers.com/2026/04/09/unl…

The Caltech group knows it has years of work ahead before any of its dreams have a chance of coming true. But the researchers can’t wait to get started. “Pick a cooler life quest than building the world’s first quantum computer with your friends!” said a jubilant @DolevBluvstein [CEO of @TeamOratomic ], reached by phone shortly before their paper went live, before rushing off to celebrate. quantamagazine.org/new-advances-b…

With extraordinary colleagues, we are developing new architectures for neutral-atom quantum processors that dramatically reduce the resource estimates for fault-tolerant quantum computing. This progress makes me optimistic that broadly useful quantum computing will soon be a reality. We’ll continue fundamental research @Caltech to advance quantum science and technology, while building fault-tolerant quantum machines and exploring their applications @TeamOratomic. It’s a very exciting time to be a quantum scientist! caltech.edu/about/news/cal…

Wonderful. Too bad I have to miss it this time. Interesting, last year I spoke about "Mind the gaps" at a similar event at the APS March meeting, and now you speak about "The road to quantum advantage", which together is pretty much the title of our article "Mind the gaps: The fraught road to quantum advantage". I will look at the recording. arxiv.org/abs/2510.19928

In this thoughtful essay, Garnet Chan reflects on recent progress using classical heuristics in computational quantum chemistry—and what it means for quantum computing. The lessons he draws can help to steer both classical and quantum approaches in scientifically productive directions. quantumfrontiers.com/2026/03/12/the…
