@NamekChizzy Because the south south would want to monopolize their oil. But I just learnt in the comments that south east has large deposit of gas. I have not read up on that yet to confirm it.

look at it this way, Nigeria has six geopolitical zones, North(East, west, central) South (East, west, south) In the event of a split, the entire north would become one, South would split into 3 countries the uncomfortable truth about a Nigerian split is that it wouldn't produce 4 equal nations. It would produce two or three viable states and one or two that would struggle for survival from day one. the South-south has oil that currently flow from Niger delta to Abuja, if we split, it becomes theirs alone and many people agree that Niger delta could become Kuwait in few years south East has always been very resourceful that even though it’s technically landlocked, they will surely find a way to access the ocean and engage in international trade. But it would still struggle a bit because they would not have comparative advantage over china in manufacturing and they would need relationship with other countries to sell imported products. there is a claim that south west already functions almost independently because of lagos, but it would require that they take over the gap that the Igbo fills in lagos for that to be valid after split. however, with access to ocean, the country would easily get on its feet. where it gets complicated is the North. They are totally landlocked with little or no mineral resources. It would be an economy built almost entirely on subsistence farming and livestock. by this logic, we will have a 2 struggling nations- North and south east and rich South south and neither rich nor poor South west and struggling nations don't stay peaceful, they pressure their wealthier neighbours and they destabilise an entire region. like what Chad, Niger and Cameroon are currently doing to us. Some could say this is why the topic of separation is almost like a blasphemy to the northern elites and a self sabotage to the south easterners.

What if they just split the country?

From the reports I have received, our armed forces have been conducting sustained, intense land and air offensives against the insurgents, neutralising many terrorist fighters and commanders. The insurgents’ counterattack is a sign of desperation.   I extend my condolences to the families of our gallant soldiers, led by  Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of our country in Borno State.   The government will never forget their sacrifices. Their sacrifices will not be in vain. Because of the courage and dedication of our troops on the frontline, our resolve to defeat terrorism and all forms of violence across Nigeria is stronger than ever.   I urge the Military High Command and our troops in all theatres of operation: Do not lose heart, do not be weary, do not be discouraged.   Our officers and men should continue to serve with honour, courage, and patriotism. The government will always stand by the Armed Forces, provide more of the equipment needed and ensure the welfare of all who risk their lives for our safety.   I urge Nigerians and the media to continue to support our Military in their relentless battle against insurgency and banditry. We should desist from celebrating or condoning the attacks against our troops. These soldiers are our heroes; unforgettable and irreplaceable.   My condolences also go to the government and people of Borno State. The Federal Government will continue to work with the state government to achieve total victory and lasting peace. DHQ PRESS RELEASE TROOPS OF OPERATION HADIN KAI SUCCESSFULLY REPEL TERRORIST ATTACK IN BENISHEIKH In continuation of the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s (AFN) counter terrorism efforts, troops of the 29 Task Force Brigade in Operation HADIN KAI came under a coordinated terrorist attack on their location at the Brigade Headquarters in Benisheikh, Borno State. The attack occurred at approximately 0030hrs (12:30am) on Thursday, 9 April 2026, as insurgents attempted to breach the defensive perimeter of the military installation. However, the troops, led by the Commander 29 Brigade, Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, responded with exceptional courage, professionalism, and superior firepower. In a well-coordinated counteraction, the insurgents were decisively engaged and forced to retreat in disarray, abandoning their mission and leaving behind traces of their failed assault. This attack is a clear indication of the desperation of terrorist elements who, having suffered significant losses in recent operations, continue to resort to futile and ill-fated offensives against well-defended military positions. The swift and decisive response by troops underscores the high level of combat readiness, resilience, and operational effectiveness of Operation HADIN KAI in safeguarding critical locations and maintaining pressure on terrorist groups across the North-East theatre. Regrettably, the encounter resulted in the loss of a few brave and gallant soldiers who paid the supreme price in the line of duty. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, honours their heroism, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to the defence of the nation. Their courage will forever remain a source of pride and inspiration to the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the entire nation. The High Command extends its deepest condolences to their families and loved ones. In line with established military tradition and respect for the fallen, the general public and media are kindly requested to allow the Armed Forces to formally notify the next of kin before the release of further details. The public is also urged to disregard misinformation, sensational reports, and unverified content circulating across social media platforms, as these undermine ongoing operations and national security efforts. The Armed Forces of Nigeria, in collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders, remain resolute and undeterred in the ongoing fight against terrorism and insurgency. Additional clearance and exploitation operations are ongoing in the general area to track and neutralize fleeing insurgents, as well as to deny them any opportunity to regroup. The Chief of Defence Staff, commends the bravery, discipline, and steadfastness of the troops, whose sacrifices continue to ensure the safety, stability, and sovereignty of Nigeria. Their dedication in one of the most challenging operational environments reaffirms the Armed Forces’ commitment to restoring lasting peace in the North-East and across the country. The general public is encouraged to continue supporting the Armed Forces through timely and credible information that can aid ongoing operations. Citizens are urged to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding as security forces sustain momentum in ongoing operations. Further updates will be provided as necessary. 8 years after Mr. David Hundeyin published two defamatory articles about me (both later retracted by Nigerian newspapers BusinessDay and NewsWire, which also terminated their cooperation with him), we are finally makign progress with 2 recent court proceedings related to my personal lawsuit against him. It hasn’t been easy, over the past few years, he has been avoiding service from court bailiffs :) Notably, Mr. Hundeyin has already lost a similar defamation case against Charles Northcott (from BBC) and is currently also being sued by Ezra Olubi (Founder of Paystack). Justice is patient. And writing paid hit pieces is not a viable long-term business model. For full context, see the link in the comments.

Good morning everyone. Very late yesterday I was tagged in screenshots of some tweets made by a senior executive at @Risevest around 2013 and earlier that give us very serious concerns. To avoid a knee jerk response, I forward same to our leadership team immediately I received them and this morning we have initiated an internal review and have convened a meeting with our whole team to handle this with the seriousness it requires. To be clear, Risevest was started by myself, Bosun Olanrewaju and Tony as a company that is a home to everyone who wants to do great work, with respect and love for every group of people. While these comments are from years before we even conceived of the company, they are not casual and they are too serious to be dismissed as "shitposting". They most definitely do not reflect the values of our company and so far we have not seen any evidence that this reflects the character or actual actions of the executive in question. However, we want to assure everyone offended by it that we fully understand why anyone would be offended by such statements and have commenced an internal review of the executive's work and conduct to determine the right course of action. As many of you have witnessed over the years, when any matters like these are in concern, we handle it firmly, thoroughly and without favoritism no matter who is involved at any level. We thank everyone who has raised this concern and ask that we be given time to ensure this matter is handled well not only for the sake of those who have raised the issue but also for the sake of our team members, stakeholders and every other person who such comments have offended. Thank you Regards, Eke Eleanya Urum CEO, Risevest.

Feminist, but you hate yoruba women. This is someone I see some top yoruba feminists kikiki with. Since 2013 o 😂🤦🏾‍♀️, I have a folder full of this for you to know how bad it is, but I’ll keep them for later. When I tell you some of these feminists will throw you under the bus just because you’re Yoruba, the hatred that they have for you as a Yoruba woman, you don’t want to know. She literally called us an animal and even inserted colourism at a point! For how long will we keep quiet about this? This is why we are telling skit makers and movie actors to stop portraying Yoruba women in such negative stereotype. We don’t find it funny! Yoruba women aren’t loose, dirty or ugly. We are one of the most fashion forward, beautiful and educated women in Nigeria. We care about our health and we’re not automatic infection carriers like it’s been portrayed on here. My question is, what did we do to deserve this??? We are just fun loving people that likes to achieve great things and celebrate with owanbe, wearing our gele and aso ofi. Yoruba women, know who you call your friends!
