@pamsson @allybear29 Well, I agree, but (merits of the product aside), I feel that way about celebrity endorsements in general; and if I’m being honest with myself, I’m probably more likely to be swayed by something that seems like it’s tailored to me.

@allybear29 @pamsson Agreed! I wonder: are they doing it with every team? Other sports? I guess it also spreads the wealth: it’s probably a nice bit of extra cash for guys who are not going to be signing Ohtani-sized endorsement deals any time soon.

I went to the replies to this expecting someone to be like, “Actually, Jon, Memorial Day is a good time to remember the fallen.” But it’s just a bunch of whining Mets fans, which is somehow even funnier.

@pamsson @allybear29 Presumably the idea is that for the price of one nationally recognized superstar, you can get a bunch of mid-tier people who might actually generate more bang for your buck. Have other companies tried this? I can’t think of any off the top of my head.

@pamsson @allybear29 I think it’s genuinely fascinating as a marketing strategy—they’ve clearly decided that instead of one big household name, they’re better off with a bunch of niche people who will appeal to specific communities. I would love to know more about the economics of it.
