Muchos lo asociamos rápidamente a un guiño a Porky Pig (“cerdito tartamudo”, referencia pop obligada), pero en realidad, hay razones mucho más oscuras y complejas detrás de ese detalle. Propongo dos hipótesis, ambas bastante motivadas (y mórbidas): Daño neurológico y psicológico por programación extrema Sabemos que Quentin fue sometido a un brutal proceso de “programación psicológica” dentro del Proyecto Quentin. No sería descabellado pensar que en el camino experimentó tratamientos extremos como electroshock, privaciones, o incluso lobotomías parciales. Estas intervenciones pueden dañar áreas cerebrales relacionadas con el lenguaje y la motricidad fina del habla (como el área de Broca, ganglios basales o conexiones del lóbulo frontal), produciendo tartamudez como “efecto secundario”, algo así como un bug permanente. En la vida real, se han documentado muchos casos similares: por ejemplo, supervivientes de lobotomías prefrontales (como las realizadas por Walter Freeman en EE.UU.) o víctimas de accidentes vasculares cerebrales que afectan las áreas motoras del lenguaje pueden desarrollar disartria o tartamudez persistente. Incluso el electroshock mal aplicado puede provocar microlesiones y trastornos del habla. Referencia real: El caso de Howard Dully, sobreviviente de una lobotomía frontal a los 12 años, que relató problemas motores y de habla por años. Otra referencia: Estudios de pacientes con tartamudez adquirida post-lesión cerebral: The acquired stuttering syndrome, en "Brain and Language", 2015. Otra posible causa: Consecuencia de un intento de suicidio traumático Esta es la opción más oscura, pero también tristemente común en contextos de trauma severo: Quentin podría haber intentado suicidarse. El método más probable, por la iconografía típica (y sí, por la sangre en la zona de la boca), sería un disparo de arma de fuego a lo Kurt Cobain, que en ocasiones no resulta letal, dejando secuelas neurológicas graves. Sin embargo, otra causa mucho más frecuente, al menos en mi experiencia profesional, es el ahorcamiento fallido. Muchas personas que sobreviven a un intento de suicidio por ahorcamiento presentan daño neurológico por hipoxia (baja oxigenación cerebral), además de lesiones mecánicas en la laringe, cuerdas vocales y vías nerviosas del habla. Esto puede derivar en tartamudez, disfonía o dificultades para la fonación, a veces de por vida. Hay casos documentados en la literatura médica, como el estudio “Neuropsychiatric consequences of attempted hanging: a clinical study” (Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, 2006), muestran que el tartamudeo y otros trastornos del habla son secuelas posibles tras un intento de ahorcamiento no letal. Meh, básicamente... El tartamudeo de Quentin puede ser un guiño inocente, pero también puede leerse como la cicatriz visible de un pasado brutal, ya sea por daño inducido por los experimentos del Proyecto Quentin, o como secuela de un trauma autoinfligido en un momento de desesperación. Quería poner esto, porque la historia a veces nos da motivaciones a comportamientos tiernos y no serían del todo descartables estas hipótesis.
