I could write a whole thread about how the endless wave of nostalgia we’re constantly forced to consume is tied to the current climate (dissatisfaction we have with our lives and impending societal/ecological collapse) but ppl have already done that a plethora of times

I don’t think it’s so much they aren’t as good as old stuff but more so in this current landscape new pieces of media aren’t given the same time, resources or support in order to develop into new classics. They aren’t seen as “safe” so have be instant hits or they’re cancelled

Cartoon Network is bringing back shows from the 2010s, Disney XD is returning by re-running old cartoons & the BillBoard charts are being topped by a song released in 2012 & 1982. I don't even think it's nostalgia at this point, products just AREN'T as good as they used to be.
