@Viral_Strike @pokerheadrush Well we clearly are playing opponents from a totally different field. I play about 6 days a week and none of these guys are thinking that deep and are not changing their behavior.

Most low-stakes games are still beaten with solid, aggressive preflop discipline: enter pots by raising, not by limping and calling.

@Viral_Strike @pokerheadrush I used to think this as well because it's logical. "Clearly people will notice and adjust". Nope, they won't. Generally players are stuck in their own two cards and the board. If you're playing superior cards then it doesn't matter what they notice.

@pokerheadrush It's hilarious that you mention this. My buddy had asked me about any exciting hands or plays that got me to 1st place. And for the first time I had nothing...It was then when I realized that I made NO spectacular or memorable plays. I just stuck with the plan. No tough plays.

The biggest long-term winners usually aren’t making flashy plays. They’re making practical, simpler, more profitable decisions.

@pokerheadrush Exactly. You’re essentially using your bet sizing as a filter for talent. By "overpricing" the pot, you price out the thinking players. That leaves you heads-up against the Stations who are willing to pay a premium tax just to see a flop with mediocre hands while out of position.

When you raise large preflop, weaker players still call. The better players fold. That leaves you playing huge pots against the worst players.

A lot of times when people turn a flush, they don’t need to look back at their cards because they already know they have it. They’re usually thinking about how to get more money. With smaller flushes, they’ll also often raise because they don’t want to see a fourth heart on the river. She also stared at the board for a few seconds while she thought. What does that mean to you?  Many players don’t do that when they have a flush. They’ll look away, look at their chips, or do anything to not alert you to what they have. I was watching her out of the corner of my eye and trying not to stare so she could stay natural. Eventually she called. At this point I thought she had a one pair type hand with a heart a lot of the time. If the river is the 8♠ what should you do? You should bluff. She has a mediocre pair most of the time and her draw bricked. If you bet a little over the size of the pot, the bet will only need to work a little more than 50% of the time. She doesn't fold much, but she'll likely fold there 60% of the time or more. The river instead was the 8♥. She led $100. This felt pretty obvious to me that she made some kind of heart flush on the river most of the time. Once in a while this could be a bluff, but not often enough in this player pool. She also hates folding once she gets more than a pair, so I didn't bother bluffing. I folded. Curious what you all think about the turn read and whether you would ever bluff a brick river here against this type of player.

Here’s another hand from that same unraked private $1/$3 game. Under the gun limped. She was a very loose passive player who liked to play almost any two cards and call down a lot. She was exactly the type of person I wanted to be playing pots with. It folded to me on the button and I looked down at A♠ 2♠. I raised to $15. A lot of people like to make it $10 here, but that’s usually too small if your goal is to isolate the loose player and get heads up in position. She called. Everyone else folded. The flop came 3♥, 5♥, 7♠. She checked and I bet $20 into $34. She called fairly quickly. What does that mean to you?

@pokerheadrush *in position* What's funny about this, I've been doing it since your suggestion and opponents HATE IT. Secures the fold often. Inside my head I say, "theee over-bet!".

@pokerheadrush Everyone wants to be the hero who catches the bluff, but the smartest player in the room is the one who folded the turn and watched the carnage for free.

Many maniacs can't fire the river. You'll have to do some hero calls before you find out if that's their honest street. ...or you can actually pay attention to showdowns and let someone else do the research for you.

There's nothing like detonating a chip lead because I got too comfortable and busting out like a chump because I lowered my discipline.

@BrianOkin If you’re caught bluffing that’s fine. It’s part of the game. Just table your hand, (or muck your hand if you really don’t want to show). Stop wasting time by trying to convince the other player to show first.

@lowstakesdre @sirotka33 On these tables, easily 3.5 open. Tighten up. And only play big pots out of HJ or better. WPT is a circus. 🎪

@elonmusk HEY, it's pretty egregious to remove the ability to transfer FSD after many of us bought a Tesla YEARS ago with the promise of ACTUAL FSD level 4 that still hasn't materialized. Now we're penalized if we buy a new car since our mileage is approaching 200K! That's wrong.

Was this the correct play? 2/3 game A♦️A♣️ in middle position, open $15. S6 3-bet to $30 (decent rec player). S8 cold call. (NIT) So I 4-bet to $130. 2 folds. I think anything smaller like $60-$75 they both call. But the rec player isn't gonna call $100 with the NIT behind.

@NourPoker Well, ya see..You’re playing a game of logic while they’re playing a game of destiny. Science taught you that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Poker taught you that for every rational bet, there is an inexplicable 40-big-blind call OOP featuring a hunch.
