When determining the name of the club one night at a pub on Fulham Road, Gus and his fellow founders discussed names like “Stamford Bridge FC” “Kensington FC” and “London United”. The name “Chelsea FC” was eventually chosen to pay homage to the adjacent borough of Chelsea. The name was also seen as more “fashionable”. The team needed a logo, and it was chosen based on the iconic Chelsea Pensioner, a retired British army veteran residing at the nearby Royal Hospital Chelsea.
