Is this replacing young peoples drinking? From today's show: Ed: "Young people aren't really drinking anymore, these more sober, curious event gatherings. And I wonder if these lines, if that's part of it, an opportunity to kind of get together." @AllisonSchrager "I once interviewed the CEO of Cinnabon..She said when people drink less, sugar becomes sort of their, their vice...And also it's the socialization. It is forcing you to have this in-person experience.

From today's show on how brands can succeed on social media: "I have an example. Minnesota called Little Joy. They've used their own social, so essentially treating their own social like, how do we become the influencer? They've built a really amazing customer base by being really consistent in creating like a serialized show on their own social. So they own that conversation...instead of building a viral like pop, builds loyalty" @milkkarten

@JustinWolfers from the show today: "There is an unknown, which is who is Kevin Walsh...The labor market's healthier, the economy's healthier. We haven't beaten it to death. And then Wall Street gets a little bit too clever and it says, oh well, so that's going to cause the Fed to overreact and the Fed will screw everything up. So good news is bad news. I've never been a fan of this story because the other possibility is the Fed could under react.

John Foley, Head of the Lex Column at the Financial Times, from today's show: "Investors are going to have to decide fairly carefully where they put their money. In terms of the companies themselves, they've got big spending plans, they've got finite cash flows from their operations, and really they're doing exactly what you're supposed to do if you think your shares are highly valued, or dare we say it, overvalued, which is issue as much equity as you can and get while the getting's good."

Ed from today's show: "If I could award multi-billion-dollar Pentagon contracts to whichever companies I wanted, yeah, I would also be a great stockbroker. If I could decide whether or not the US goes to war, I'd be a great stockbroker. This is one of the lamest flexes we have seen, perhaps ever, The president is essentially admitting that he is insider trading. Spoiler alert: all of us already knew that."

Ed from today's show: "$1 trillion. That is roughly how much new stock is about to be injected into the stock market. In 3 days, SpaceX will go public raising $75 billion, the biggest IPO ever. Then OpenAI and Anthropic, and given their last rounds, probably $100 billion each. Then Google, $85 billion, the largest equity financing event of all time. And Meta is...reportedly weighing the same move. Just right there, we're looking at $400 billion in new stock issuance. But wait, there's more..."

Why are fast food franchises struggling? High inflation and rising labor costs play a part but declining foot traffic may be due to a loss of appetite. @profgalloway shares his thoughts.
