My NYU colleague @MikeHoutNY just reminded me of one of Todd Gitlin’s best lines. Paraphrasing here, but it was something like: “In the American culture wars, the Left got the English Departments, the Right got the government.” RIP.

@KirkNeutrino @BrendanNyhan @HC_Richardson Well, it's not exactly the same thing, but during the Cold War the US was extremely active in meddling with other nation's governments. They supported all kinds of anti-communists (and subverted inconvenient lefties) in lots of ways. So, yeah, Nixon "endorsed" Pinochet.

An authoritarian who is in the process of destroying Hungary's democracy. Trump doesn't hide who he is or what he wants to do. Happening right in front of us.
