Shame on the adult gatekeepers at the @DDSBSchools. What are you so afraid of? Books teach empathy. Books are mirrors, windows, and doors. Maybe learn a little about the value of literature (for children, for everyone) before you start pulling books from shelves.

The Durham District School Board has pulled The Great Bear from its libraries, and I’m shocked. We need to be putting more books by Indigenous authors on the shelves, not taking them out. This is an insult to teachers, librarians, and children. thestar.com/news/gta/2022/…

@AngelaSterritt First name! I lose my mind (internally) when they default to "Mrs." or "Miss" - it feels so gross. If they aren't comfortable using my first name (some international students aren't), I allow them to use Professor LastName (but I find it too stiff, personally).

Such a small action has so much power: I grew up in a small town with a very small library. My 10th grade English teacher lugged in a box of his own books to share with us. Those books helped inspire me to study lit in post-sec. Look at me now, Mr. Haskins!
