Our new paper is out describing #interoperability for #healthdata in Canada. The challenges are not technical and are causing real hard to Canadians.
LongwoodsNotes@LongwoodsNotes

A harmonized approach to #healthdata #interoperability governance & public policy in Canada has not yet occurred. @proftyler_chs @anita_layton et al propose a framework that articulates what Canada needs to address to optimize health data design. longwoods.com/content/27272/…

@_LoriMontgomery I totally agree. I think the public would be blown away to know that their Dr can’t get the data they need when they need it. It is costing lives and should be unacceptable to all of us.

Interoperability is the notion of your health data being portable between your various care providers. It is desperately needed in Alberta but also needs to be principle based. This report provides some guidance on how we get there.
@albertavirtualcare@ABVirtualCare

For patients to get the best care possible, healthcare teams need communication and information. But what happens when information is fragmented or inaccessible? The Alberta Virtual Care “Interoperability Saves Lives” report offers solutions: albertavirtualcare.org #abhealth

Should Alberta withdraw from the Canada Pension Plan? It's a major policy question with complex pros and cons. I'll help unpack the issues, based on a new paper I'm happy to share today! 🧵 🤓 #cdnecon #cdnpoli #ableg Link to SSRN Working Paper: ssrn.com/abstract=45769…

@dr_sajobi Time to write a letter on the reason for power analyses. When they are the right thing and when they are clearly not!

@proftyler_chs I share the same view as well. Glad to know that I'm not crazy.😀Perhaps this is something we can put on the radar of the CIHR review panels.

How do you conduct power analyses for a ML algorithm aside from the difference?. Is it right to use power analysis based on "traditional stats" to justify the adequacy of "modern" ML algorithms for a study? 😜 Best, A conflicted statistician

@dr_sajobi That’s a tough one isn’t it. Because a power analysis doesn’t necessarily provide what you really want - some degree of certainty that your experiment will be fruitful. To me, it’s a limitation of the evaluation criteria. Power does not help here IMO

@proftyler_chs @proftyler_chs, thanks for this. The goal is two-fold; 1.identify risk factors associated with the outcome. 2. developing a risk prediction model based on ML. As expected with cirhr grants, there is expectation each project objective should have a power analysis section.
