She walked into Radio Pakistan and recorded 12 war songs in rapid succession. Aye Watan ke Sajelay Jawano. Rang Laaye Ga Shaheedon Ka Lahoo. Aye Puttar Hattan Te Nahi Wikde. She did not just record them. She went directly to the troops and the wounded in hospitals, singing to boost their morale face-to-face. Army officers who served in that war spoke about it decades later. One said her songs were the spark plug of their entry into battle. Another said the youth who enlisted because of her voice would complain during hard training that they joined for Noor Jahan not for this. Then, 1971. The nation faced its darkest, most painful winter. Once again, she stepped into the high-pressure recording rooms. Under blackouts and the threat of air raids, she gave the country her voice. Umeed-e-Fatah Rakho Aur Qadam Barhaye Chalo۔ When public morale was fracturing under the weight of a devastating conflict, her voice was the thread that tried to stitch the nation's spirit back together.
