Today, I officially launched the Retired Expert Skills Database and the Diaspora Skills Database, marking a decisive step in institutionalising Zimbabwe’s human capital for national development. For decades, our nation has produced highly trained professionals who have served with distinction across the public sector, private industry, academia, and international institutions. Yet, until now, there has been no centralised mechanism to systematically identify, organise, and deploy this vast reservoir of expertise. This initiative corrects that structural deficiency. The two databases elevate skills from latent assets to strategic national resources, enabling evidence-based deployment of expertise to priority sectors, strengthening service delivery, accelerating innovation, and enhancing national competitiveness. The participation of retired experts will ensure the transfer of institutional memory, mentorship of emerging professionals, and informed policy guidance. Engagement of the diaspora will facilitate remote collaboration, knowledge exchange, and targeted skills repatriation.
