😢 13 Year old Austin collapses after his game on Sunday and suffers a stroke. Grassroots Family please send your love and messages of support to him to boost his spirits. 🚨A message from Austin's Parents⤵️ 🗣️Good Morning, Austin has played Grassroots Football since he was 6 and sadly on Sunday he came off halfway through his game after taking a few blows to his head. When he got home he lost use of his right hand side and we rushed him to hospital. He’s been in intensive care and it has been confirmed he has suffered a stroke, he’s only 13 and faces the biggest fight of his life, he is currently in Addenbrookes Hospital received the best care possible. The road to recovery has started but sadly I feel his mental health is suffering as he is frustrated. Can’t speak much, walk or do anything he used to be able too. This is really playing on his mind and last night he asked myself and my wife if we still loved him. This broke me as a parent.. Anyway if there’s anyway the grassroots community can help with well wishes it may improve his mental state of mind and give him the support to fight..

@RJPcoach My biggest pet hate in football 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ We learn from every decision we make and need to be encouraged to make them, not be roared at from the sidelines non-stop.

@JDB_890788 Totally agree. Watching elite football definitely helps develop tactical understanding of the game. Unfortunately youth players seem to be more interested in football video games. I used to ask my kids to watch a pro game and ask them to tell me about players in their positions.

Soccer IQ is positional understanding, reading the game, creative play, decision making, etc. Where does that come from? Experience, practice, and WATCHING futbol/soccer. Lots of youth players still don’t watch games. I can’t teach soccer IQ in a 30-45 min tech session lol….

@markbdavis11 I’ve had teams from US tour with us to UK & Europe. All the coaches have been really good, both on and off the field. I’m with you when there’s a line of players waiting to take a shot at goal. The most non-game specific drill I see, usually an unopposed shot from edge of box,

I walk into a 78 million dollar MLS indoor center, and what do I see a club coach putting his 15 youth players in a straight line waiting to kick a ball at a net. I watched for 20 minutes his players touched the ball once every 80 seconds WAKE UP!

@StephenChaconas @Sw9083ws @veocamera At UK grassroots level we see isolated issues, but leagues & football associations do their best to ensure good playing environment on/off the field. At UK Pro Academy (similar level to ECNL), there are no issues as pro clubs have zero tolerance to poor player/parent behaviour.
