The ED raid against former Kerala CM @pinarayivijayan is yet another blatant misuse of central agencies by the BJP to target regional opposition parties and undermine democracy. ED’s immediate raid after Congress started complaining about ‘inaction’, raises questions on the BJP-Congress relationship.

BJP knows that it has no political space in Kerala unless CPIM is undermined. That is the politics of ED raid on the residence of Pinarayi Vijayan today,with connivance of Congress. It has galvanised the entire CPIM into protest action overcoming the trauma of electoral set back.

Strongly condemn the political witch-hunt being carried out by the Enforcement Directorate against CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and Opposition leader Comrade Pinarayi Vijayan. The raid at Pinarayi Vijayan’s residence is part of a larger politics of vendetta. The BJP must not assume that such actions can weaken or destroy Pinarayi Vijayan, his movement, or the Left. Over the past several years, the Union government has consistently pursued a policy of weaponising central agencies to eliminate political opponents. Strong resistance against this move will continue to intensify. It must not be forgotten that the BJP enjoys the support and cooperation of the Congress in targeting Pinarayi Vijayan. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi repeatedly visited Kerala and publicly questioned why Pinarayi Vijayan had not yet been arrested by the ED. These developments must also be viewed in the context of the fact that the raids came immediately after Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan met the Prime Minister and Union ministers in Delhi. Similar politically motivated attacks were carried out in Delhi against Arvind Kejriwal by the BJP and central agencies with Congress support. Both the Congress and the BJP have repeatedly attempted to eliminate Pinarayi Vijayan politically and physically. This is yet another chapter in the long history of political vendetta directed against him since the days of the Emergency. Just as those earlier attempts were defeated, there is complete confidence that Pinarayi Vijayan and his movement will overcome this challenge as well. There is absolutely no objection to any investigation, in any form, into matters related to CMRL. However, even higher courts have pointed out that these repeated actions are politically motivated. The Vigilance Court, the High Court, and the Supreme Court have all made observations to that effect. At the same time, two individuals who are currently members of the state cabinet have themselves acknowledged receiving money from CMRL, and the company has also confirmed this. Yet, no action whatsoever has been taken against them. The Supreme Court itself has repeatedly pointed out that the BJP uses central agencies as instruments of political vendetta against opponents. The fact that even one per cent of the cases taken up by the Enforcement Directorate do not end in conviction further exposes the political nature of these investigations. It is precisely this same approach that the BJP, with Congress support, is now deploying against the CPI(M) in Kerala. Across the country, Congress leaders facing investigations by central agencies have repeatedly sought refuge within the BJP camp. From Himanta Biswa Sarma, Ashok Chavan, Naveen Jindal, Captain Amarinder Singh, and Digambar Kamat, to several others who came under the scanner of central agencies, many eventually joined the BJP. However, such threats have never intimidated the CPI(M). CPI(M) workers are those who have fought and even laid down their lives resisting the Sangh Parivar. The struggle against the Sangh Parivar will move forward with even greater strength. The CPI(M) views this attack against Pinarayi Vijayan as an attack on the party itself. Without any formal call, thousands of people have already taken to the streets in protest. Protest demonstrations are underway at all district, area, and local centres of the party. Torchlight marches will also be organised this evening at every branch. All sections of the people are called upon to come forward and join the resistance against this attack on the CPI(M).

The BJP government of PM Narendra Modi used its political police to raid the home of the former Chief Minister of Kerala, @pinarayivijayan, a leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI (M). In Delhi, the CPI (M) held a demonstration at the political police headquarters. The police reacted with characteristic force, arresting a range of leaders, including MA Baby (@MABABYCPIM - here in white), being dragged to prison. Condemn the behaviour of the BJP government and the police.

The raids conducted by the ED at the residence of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan are a clear act of political vendetta and yet another example of the BJP-led Union Government’s brazen misuse of central investigative agencies. Such actions are aimed at intimidating the Left, targeting political opponents, and undermining the federal principles. The repeated weaponisation of agencies like the ED against opposition-ruled states and dissenting political voices poses a serious threat to democracy and federalism. All democratic, secular, and federal forces must come together against these authoritarian attempts to silence and intimidate political opposition.
