I have never dared enter Nix ecosystem since I have rather low tolerance for learning DevOps “platforms”, but this abstraction is what I might actually use - jetpack.io/devbox

@andrioid I don’t think they grew in any meaningful way during his time as a CEO. Besides being extremely boring to developers, I recall their share price flatlining for many years. Don’t let Steve gaslight you 😵‍💫

I think Steve Ballmer doesn't get enough credit. While Microsoft wasn't very innovative in his tenure, they did grow and were quite profitible. This interview shows a different side of him youtube.com/watch?v=qFe0S3…

@andrioid Bought a pizza stone last week. Had some trouble sliding the pizza in. Achieved similar shape 🤣. The internet suggested copious amounts of corn flower to minimize friction.

@enordfjord What I have been reading is that this is a small pretty small set back in the astronomical growth tech has been experiencing. And unions in the US - common, it’s not going to happen.

Given all of these Big Tech layoffs, do you think we'll start to see Software Unions?

It boggles my mind that a high end e-reader, such as Kobo Elipsa is so bad at the basics - turning pages of EPUB books. It is unbelievably unresponsive. And this thing has 1GB RAM and a 1.8GHz quad-core CPU. 🤯

Finally sat down and created an account on Mastodon - @pshomov@techhub.social. Imported the people I follow on twitter and installed an app on my phone. So far, so good.🤷🏽‍♂️. Anything else I should do?

@mitchellh Hi Michell. Big fan of your work throughout the years. Thank you. Also a big RSS fan and also sad that fewer and fewer sites opt out for newsletters. That’s why I was so glad to discover years ago kill-the-newsletter.com. Maybe you will find it useful too.

Its been like a decade but I still wake up some days (like today) and look around at the web we've built and can't believe we effectively lost RSS. To check if my fav tech writers have content I now have to check multiple sites with a non-linear timeline and no inbox.

Why is it that every time I open a test file in a #React codebase I'm greeted with - 50 lines of imports - 30 calls to jest.mock - 150 lines of garbage data - a single test that doesn't assert on anything

@enordfjord Another part is writing tests most likely after the code under test. Then there is not reacting to the code smell. And then there is treating test code as not worthy of refactoring and generally of secondary importance.

@enordfjord I think part of this is front-end devs not being as experienced in writing tests as backend devs since testability is relatively new practice for the former.

@andrioid I was trying to be funny, just stroking that tingling feeling I sometimes get after the long hours trying to optimize a pipeline. Sign of the maturity of DevOps tooling I suppose.

@pshomov Maybe. Too much developer time is spent waiting on pipelines But how much time, varies 😃
