When we adopt tools and methods without thinking about and clarifying what we need them to do in our context, we almost guarantee that they will not work as we need them to. But it’s way easier to blame meetings, metrics, and managers. 13/13

We “promote” brilliant engineers to managers but don’t support them in understanding their new job because “they’re smart, they’ll figure out.” Is it any surprise that they struggle? Who has ever told them what it means to be a manager in this company? In this department? 12/13
