New horizons beckon. I finish at Brookes on Thursday and on Friday I take up a 13-month fixed-term Research Residency at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, which will allow me a much-appreciated period in which to write, publish and consolidate future research plans.

@CRFIrvine A lovely tribute, Callum. This is such sad news. Sending thoughts of comfort and care to you, his friends, family, and colleagues.

Waking up to a message letting me know that one of my supervisors had passed away has taken me a little time to begin to process, going through the motions of disbelief and sadness. John Burnside was a wonderful, supportive, and *good* man. I’d admired him as a poet for years:

Very sad to hear about the passing of John Burnside. He was one of our finest writers. Here is a great portrait of him by painter Alan Lawson.

If this were to happen it would mean a general election on the same day that 'The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire' is published in the UK and, honestly, it just makes the whole thing a lot funnier.

I've been fortunate enough to have Jake Davey sit and listen to me gab about my research on Lateness and Late Style, and, a little while later, be met with a fantastic-looking score of Lateness-influenced music to be premiered on Thursday evening alongside several others!

What do you get if you have immensely talented composers and performers from @RCStweets interpreting and premiering pieces based on the work of researchers at @univofstandrews? The 'Intersections' concert this Thursday, 5-7pm at @StAndrewsMusic, of course!
