By collaborating with the @Hines_Lab and @PaulWilliamsNHM, we deciphered the evolutionary history of the most colorful bumblebee mimicry complex in southeast Asia. Our study is just published on Science Advances, and more excitingly, our bee is on the COVER! @ScienceAdvances

While much of the research on Müllerian mimicry has focused on neotropical butterflies, scientists now use high-resolution genome-wide SNP markers to untangle the evolutionary history of two mimetic species of bumblebees. Learn more in this week’s issue: scim.ag/7iE

Terrestrial isopods 💕 cuteness overload Compared to terrestrial ones, their aquatic relatives are really bizarre and crazy looking, and I’ll do another piece for them!

Behold, the beautiful Blue-banded Bee! 🐝💙 Sitting ever so delicately on my finger, it is a great opportunity to appreciate the hard-work these native bees do in pollinating and keeping our eco-systems healthy! 🌳 Have you ever been lucky enough to see a bee of the Amegilla genus buzzing around flowers? 🌸 With over 70 species worldwide, they come in a variety of different colours, but the blue-banded species really stand out! 💙 This is a Northern Blue-banded Bee (Amegilla walkeri) which is only found in the monsoonal tropics of north-western Australia! ☀️ Keep your eyes out for these fast moving bees, especially on purple flowers! 🪻
