A fan-made project has brought Mario Kart Wii to PC through full recompilation, making it the first Wii game recompiled this way.
Unlike an emulator, it runs as a native PC application, enabling 4K resolution, uncapped frame rates, ultrawide support, and other PC enhancements while preserving original gameplay.
The team used AI to generate parts of the recompilation code to speed up development, but the project still required significant human work to test, fix, and integrate everything.
Players must provide their own legal copy of Mario Kart Wii.
It also supports the popular Retro Rewind mod, which adds over 200 tracks, with the first public beta planned for August.
