Then he mocked the guy, asking if he was a doctor or scientist, throwing in slurs along the way. Well, I am a scientist, and I can confirm the follower was right. That diet works because it supports the gut–brain axis, the biochemical link between digestion, emotion, and cognition. Animal protein provides L-tryptophan, the amino acid that becomes serotonin, your brain’s mood regulator and motility signal for the intestines. Healthy fats from fish and ruminant meat feed the cell membranes and hormone pathways that govern testosterone, thyroid, and cortisol balance. Now contrast that with the standard Western diet. High in refined carbs and seed oils, it spikes insulin, overwhelms the liver, and floods the gut with fermentable sugars that feed dysbiosis (i.e. wrong bacteria in the wrong ratio in your gut).
