The ED raid at the residence of Opposition leader Comrade Pinarayi Vijayan is nothing but a politically motivated act of vendetta. Despite courts having repeatedly observed that Comrade Pinarayi Vijayan has absolutely no connection with Exalogic, this witch-hunt continues unabated. He is now being targeted even for being Veena’s father. How else can this raid, taking place immediately after Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan’s meeting with the Prime Minister in Delhi, be viewed other than as a politically orchestrated drama? Several individuals whose names reportedly appeared in the CMRL diary are today occupying positions in the state cabinet itself. Yet, while turning a blind eye to all of them, the relentless targeting of Comrade Pinarayi Vijayan only further exposes the clear political vendetta behind these actions. There will be no attempt whatsoever to obstruct the investigation. However, the people will be mobilised, and strong protests will be organised against this blatant misuse of central agencies for political targeting.

Strongly condemn the Enforcement Directorate raids directed against former Kerala Chief Minister Com. @pinarayivijayan. Such actions once again raise serious concerns over the growing pattern of central agencies being weaponised against Opposition leaders. Incidentally, this also exposes the hollowness of the reckless allegations made by some Congress leaders who repeatedly questioned why Pinarayi Vijayan had “not yet been targeted by the BJP”! #EDraids

This is yet another example of the systematic misuse of central agencies to harass and target political opponents. Such vindictive actions expose the authoritarian mindset. The vindictive actions unleashed immediately after the UDF government assumed office must be stopped without delay. In reality, these politically motivated measures had begun even before the UDF ministry formally took charge. Government employees were transferred based on directions issued on the letterheads of right-wing unions, triggering widespread protests across the state. The action initiated against police officers who merely discharged their duty by preventing attempts to attack the vehicle carrying the Chief Minister and other ministers is part of this larger politics of vendetta. Using such incidents for political score-settling whenever governments change is deeply inappropriate and dangerous. Political disagreement with the Nava Kerala Sadas or the LDF government is natural in a democracy, and democratic protests are legitimate. However, what unfolded there was not a democratic protest. The Z-category security provided to the Chief Minister was not decided by the state government. Initially, the government had determined that pilot and escort vehicles alone were sufficient. It was later, based on Intelligence Bureau recommendations, that Z-category security was implemented. The developments in Thiruvananthapuram over the past few days further expose how the state government is misusing the police machinery for narrow political interests. It was KSU activists who attacked the SFI victory march held after the University Union election results. Instead of restraining the attackers, the police brutally assaulted SFI activists. Shockingly, serious criminal charges have now been imposed on the very students who were hospitalised following the attack. Similarly, in Ernakulam, the UDF government attempted to facilitate the eviction of Scheduled Caste families. It was only due to the intervention of CPI(M) and democratic forces that this injustice was prevented. This, too, reveals the direction in which the present government’s policies are moving. At the same time, none of the promises the UDF claimed it would implement immediately upon assuming office are being fulfilled. Those who repeatedly declared that the state treasury was empty have now fallen silent after the reality emerged that nearly ₹6,000 crore remains in the treasury. It must be clearly understood that such politically motivated actions are being carried out to divert public attention from the government’s failure to fulfil the promises made to the people.

It is now increasingly evident that BJP leaders are behind the NEET question paper leak. This is not the first instance of a paper leak since the Union government entrusted the NTA with the conduct of the examination. The NTA must be dissolved immediately. The responsibility for conducting examinations should be handed over to the concerned government agencies, and the examination process must be decentralised. A comprehensive investigation must be carried out, and every individual involved in the scam must be brought to justice. Stringent measures should be implemented to ensure that such incidents are never repeated. The irregularities in the evaluation of the CBSE Class XII examinations expose yet another grave failure of the system. The Union government continues to display complete indifference towards students and their future. Immediate corrective action must be taken on these issues.

The Central Government is once again looting people by hiking petrol and diesel prices. Even as Brent crude prices fall globally, fuel prices are being pushed up - daylight robbery on common people. The BJP’s usual trick continues: hold prices during elections, then empty people’s pockets once votes are over. The UDF, which staged protests demanding tax cuts while in opposition, is now in power in Kerala. People are waiting to see whether they will practice what they preached - cut taxes and raise their voice against the Centre.
