@trottyyyyy When you say people hate you personally for doing your job, do you think that feeling emanates from within the ranks or from the public? In my experience, the public respect you highly.

Being a black Bermudian Police Officer here is so difficult. People hate you personally for doing your job, even if you do everything you are supposed to do. When that happens it makes me wonder how life would have been different if I remained in hospitality or construction. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Proud to have partnered with the Ministry of Justice to deliver 1,000 books and 15 tablets into our correctional facilities: investing in education, access to justice, and second chances. Grateful to the AG, Commissioner of Corrections, Future Leaders Bermuda/ Roose’ Book Club, and our all of our community partners who turned vision into action. ‘You judge a society by how it treats the most vulnerable.’ — Bryan Stevenson #BEJI #AccessToJustice #Rehabilitation #EqualJustice

No serious observer doubts that judges, prosecutors, defense counsel and court staff continue to work under significant pressure in attempting to move matters through the courts. However, the language used by Puisne Judge Juan Wolffe in the Judiciary’s 2025 Annual Report, particularly the emphasis on ‘disposals’ and the suggestion that defendants are not languishing in the system, requires careful examination if the public is to have a clear and accurate understanding of the present state of the criminal justice process. Behind every entry in a statistical table stands a human reality: a victim waiting for justice, a witness waiting to be heard, or a defendant carrying the weight of accusation for years before the case disappears from the court list. The Bermuda Equal Justice Initiative believes that meaningful reform begins with candor about the challenges facing the system. Respect for the courts does not require silence about structural difficulties. On the contrary, public confidence is strengthened when those difficulties are acknowledged and addressed with openness.

The biggest skill you can develop is the ability to reset fast. Bad conversation? Move on. Bad day? Start fresh tomorrow. Missed workout? Hit it the next day. Poor decision? Learn and adjust. You can’t control what happens to you, but you control how long you let it affect you.
