@LealaHolcomb Hall et al 2018 JSLHR @ASLresearch used a few executive function tasks w/ deaf kids but most of the group differences were from the parent report. Cates et al. 2022 found working memory to be a predictor for NNS reading comprehension.

@jmhenner Because these should be distinct effects? If we view language deprivation as a symptom then its severity results from various effects (linguistic, social, emotional, etc).

@qi2cheng2 I guess I wonder why we want to separate the effects. What’s the ideological goal there?

Sometimes I wonder if it’s the language deprivation or the linguistic trauma of neglect and social deprivation. We know trauma also reshapes the brain. Have to think about this.
