I've been following the creation of Crimson Dessert since it announced many years ago. I believe they have character creation at the start, but the moment they made the stupid, baffling decision of a fixed male character, the game is no longer made for me. I knew the game would be just a single-player Black Desert, the game would never have a good story, but if they had character creation, at least it would be a sandbox world that I could play with a character I've made. I'll not play for hundreds of hours with a boring man named Cliff.

@GenePark If they want me to just "immerse myself in a huge world where you basically just live a fantasy life" why do I have to play as a fixed character? And the most generic and boring one imaginable at that. I'd just play literally any other medieval fantasy action RPG from my backlog

My main problem with 1.0 story is not only it's boring, it also dragging on for far too long. Ruan Yi death is the perfect closer for the story, the epilogue suppose only for Tangtang/Stockade closure. It'll be not too long and not too short. But I guess they'll dragging it on again because of some NPC again...

That's totally fair, the first few hours of the MSQ in 1.0 was extremely slow and has alot of tutorials, alot of the people were even turned off by it. "Thanks for the heads-up as I'll hate it a lot more if I'm not prepared for it." No problem xD It's a good thing you didn't started it yet, the feeling was dreadful.

The first half of Arknights: Endfield Version 1.1’s story hit hard… but the second half completely killed the emotional momentum. Honestly, I think the story should’ve ended right after Ruan Yi’s death. First Half - Emotional Peak The first half was genuinely great. Ruan Yi’s sacrifice carried real emotional weight and felt like a powerful climax for the entire conflict surrounding the Stockade. But what made it even better is that his sacrifice wasn’t about vengeance. It was actually about the political situation between the Stockade and Ardashir. Ruan Yi understood that if he stayed alive, the Stockade would never abandon their desire for revenge. His presence alone would keep that cycle going. That’s why he fought us alone. He wasn’t trying to drag the Stockade into a final act of vengeance. Instead, he was trying to end that cycle and force the Stockade to move forward. And more importantly, his plan was about passing leadership to Tangtang. As long as he was alive, the Stockade would never truly acknowledge her as their leader. So his sacrifice wasn’t just emotional, It was strategic. But this is exactly why the second half of the story felt unnecessary. Second Half - Where It Fell Apart The emotional peak already happened, yet the narrative kept going and introduced the “Uncle” character as the antagonist. The problem is… he never existed in the first half. He didn’t play a meaningful role in the earlier power struggle, so when he suddenly becomes the central conflict, it feels forced. Instead of feeling like a real antagonist, he just shows up late and starts acting dramatic about being betrayed and being targeted because he's going against the younger dame. Because of that lack of buildup, the entire conflict feels weak compared to the powerful moment we just had with Ruan Yi. Another issue is the LB conflict with the Stockade. It wasn’t really handled well either. The LB faction felt more like a placeholder than an actual alliance. They’re supposed to be both an uneasy ally and a looming threat, but the story never properly develops that tension. Instead of feeling like a dangerous faction with their own agenda, they mostly just exist in the background without meaningful impact on the narrative. Also, I didn't give a flying fk about the stockade bombing the Wuling City. That shit was so terrible. The Only Things That Worked There were still a couple moments I liked. Tangtang’s farewell to Ruan Yi was genuinely emotional and felt like the proper closure for his character. And Fangyi’s appearance was also a great moment, because it showed Tangtang and Fangyi reaching a compromise that helped improve the relationship between Wuling and the Stockade. It was a small but important step toward reconciliation, and it reinforced the idea that Ruan Yi’s sacrifice actually led to progress. The final battle royale-style confrontation was cool too, but the build-up just wasn’t there, which made the payoff feel hollow. What Could’ve Fixed It I think the story would’ve worked much better if the “Uncle” character had been introduced earlier and actually participated in the power struggle. If he had been manipulating events behind the scenes or clashing with Ruan Yi throughout the first half, the second half would’ve felt like a natural continuation instead of a sudden detour. Overall, Version 1.1’s story had a fantastic emotional core with Ruan Yi, but the narrative overstayed its welcome. If the main story had ended with his sacrifice, and the rest was turned into a companion quest, it probably would’ve preserved the emotional impact instead of weakening it.

No. As much as I love Frieren, I'm more interested in her journey at the present. The flashback works well, but the constant can feel too much at times. I prefer Demon Slayer flashback as it's a payoff of the battle and an indication that the Demon can remember their past life before dying. By the way, I hate the way One Piece implements flashbacks. Oda should just make a separate side story of One Piece manga that tells the past events.
