@XiXiDu recently suno released new model and it is even worse at that - i guess it is better at pop (which causes regression in other places).

@XiXiDu it is good at that kind of music (or i'm just not able to rate it correctly). the problem with non-pop genres is you need to generate 100 songs to find one out of distribution (all sound the same), and it still would be 3 levels below in quality (sound engineering / mastering).

I'm not into music, so that may be the reason, but if I had heard this on the radio or on TV, I wouldn't have been able to tell that this was AI-generated. Music has already crossed the point for me where I'm completely unable to tell apart AI from human output.

@then_there_was the problem is that dating apps have opposite incentives. they lose money every time the match is successful.

"I want you to explain f2, f3, f4 statistics using an intuitive visualization in time-frequency space." An altogether fine version. When I made similar visualizations by hand I made the lines squigglier to show stochasticity of allele frequency changes... 1/2

there is an influx of "unsuccessful chinese elder millennial" channels on youtube filming their ordinary life. still can't decide if this is state psyop or supply/demand exploitation enabled by ai translation but they are really interesting.

@drydenwtbrown you have flawed model what wealth is. wealth is what people want (value). it is not possible to gain wealth without giving people what they want (outside agi scenarios). e.g., if we decide to not value cars (because walking is high status), next day car producers go bankrupt.

@drydenwtbrown ai won't take all the jobs. it is possible to have 99% of economy consisted of completely synthetic jobs and all of the real jobs done by models/robots.

asked 4.7 if an algorithm I wrote satisfies a bunch of requisites. while thinking, it realized I broke one important invariant. this was very helpful. on the final answer, though? it just said my algorithm is brilliant and flawless!! wtf? glad I read the thinking traces...

Instead of state UBI from AI, we should give people a transferrable perpetuity equal to their estimated earnings and benefits for the rest of their natural biological lives, which they can then funnel into investments or consumption as they see fit. The transferability is key: they can take that perpetuity to another country or to a private firm, as long as that new entity has assets to credibly back it. It would be like a Roth IRA except without the age restriction and people wouldn't be able to lump-sum withdraw.

@then_there_was it's more of a soft collusion. in their business is to publish new models as late as possible to maximize profits.

I think it's very funny that OpenAI and Anthropic intentionally time their announcements so as to occlude the other. Really goes to show how much they dislike each other.

@mattparlmer i think you have wrong model of a normie. this may be a problem for a few % of society. most of normies just want to do as little as possible maximizing pleasure as far from home as possible (and this is true for both poor and rich know).

I don’t expect many ppl to adapt well to a system where almost everybody has makework jobs bc most ppl are in makework jobs already and it’s not going well for the human spirit
