The new #Imagination Technologies PowerVR kernel driver for Linux looks very promising. They aim on supporting among others Series6XT, on which the GPU of Apple A8 and A8X are based on. Imagine if mobile Apple chipsets got GPU support in Linux faster than #Asahi's M1 😜

@flawedworlddev Still not perma-bricked: if you interrupt boot process by, say, making UFS inaccessible, you'd land in Exynos USB download mode.

@CalcProgrammer1 S9 uses Exynos 9810. I believe it's very similar to 8895 in any case. But really, nothing works as of now :) Porting clock driver would be the first step in bringing up different hardware, i2c is probably the second thing after clocks.

@Pr0toc0L @konradybcio no, there is no guide/reference yet. we have a device tree which supposedly should work on your tablet. if you want to test, join #themainlinebasement:matrix.org (sometimes offtopic), but you have to have some Linux experience beforehand, we won't do your job for you

@leiser_patrick @konradybcio To be fair, PowerVR part isn't too needed, the thing we need is Apple EDP controller (yes the screen is connected with DisplayPort). Which would be... very difficult probably :/ Would also need Apple DART IOMMUs, luckily the disp0 ones seems to work, unlike the ISP ones. 4/4

@konradybcio @quaack723 Does it support an actual GUI? What about the touch screen? I'd love to stick this on an old iPad mini 2 once it does!

@leiser_patrick @konradybcio About UIs, we can get anything that works with a framebuffer which is really every UI given the new simpleDRM driver. About GPU integration, I think the PowerVR Series6XT has some support, but I don't know how it works, and it would also need probably additional support. 3/4
