@Damoadelaide No problem. Hope they win tonight. I do think in general they have been overhyped in Australia, but this is a chance to really live up to it.

The media is only just cottoning on to the fact that the AFL is rorting the fans with these fully ticketed games. The consumer is having to do the work by digitally acquiring their ticket so the markup is basically 100%.

@Craig_Foster You are right Craig, but in hindsight was it a misstep to tacitly endorse Khamenei by marching in front of a picture of him last year?

FIFA and the AFC must act immediately. They must issue a clear public statement affirming that every player competing under their jurisdiction holds the unqualified right to any response, or non-response, to their own national anthem. They must make equally clear that any threat made, or any action taken, against the Iranian women’s players, their families, or any other player or staff member for conduct protected under FIFA’s own human rights framework constitutes a direct and actionable violation of that framework — with consequences for the member federation responsible. The Iranian women’s players still have a match remaining in this tournament. The threat to them and to their families back home does not end with the final whistle. History tells us that. FIFA has suspended member associations for government interference in football governance. The documented intimidation of national team players by state security forces — forcing them under threat of family persecution to perform a political act in a FIFA competition — is government interference of the most direct and violent kind. It also constitutes a serious violation of the human rights obligations FIFA has publicly claimed. Any persecution of Iranian players — women or men — on the basis of protected actions taken while competing in a FIFA-regulated environment must result in immediate suspension of Iran from FIFA membership. That consequence must be stated clearly, publicly, and now.

With the renaming of Brunton Avenue to Barassi Way in honour of the late great Ronal Dale, the Carlton link remains. Former Lord Mayor Sir William Brunton was born in Carlton and educated at Princes Hill State School - and he formally opened the Robert Heatley Stand in May 1932.

@DanielCherny @7JaggerSmith @StKFootball The proposed merger was borne out of poor financial management, not lack of support. Hawthorn galvanised their latent support more effectively than any other Vic club. St Kilda has seen club leadership make mistakes re training and playing venues, as well as lack of vision

Agree St Kilda are down there but think there is latent support and significant upside. See earlier post, if Geelong and Hawthorn are considered big clubs then there are six of 10 in Victoria who should be considered as such. Might I remind everyone it’s not even 30 yrs ago that Hawthorn almost merged!

Disagree we’re a small club. Lacking premierships? Sure, but that’s different. The fanbase is widely known to be large - but famously latent. We do need to have success again to flush them out and get them back to the footy. They’ll come back. They just want flags first.

In 2025, more than 5 million of you came through the gates 🏟️ a 3.6% increase on last year. NRL CEO Andrew Abdo said the 2025 season delivered the strongest entertainment product in Australian sport. With the ball in play for longer than ever before, fans experienced more action per minute across the season. The competition was also tighter than at any time since 2018, with more than one-third of matches decided by six points or fewer. 📊 Read the full 2025 NRL Annual Report here: spr.ly/6016hluMu THE BIGGEST. @TerpsMLC Why on earth would a minister be commentating on a media station? Perhaps that media station is questioning the corruption, crime, and record debt being experienced by Vic tax payers. The same ones who pay your salary.
