A guy I know lost both parents to a drunk driver. He got custody of his 3 siblings and had to drop out of uni to work and take care of them. He used to joke a lot, always outside, always laughing. After it happened, he barely talked. Just always looked tired. If this law had been in place it would have eased his burden a bit.

A grandmother in Missouri is pushing for a new law that would require drunk drivers to pay child support if they kill a parent. (Bentley's Law)

This was happening to Chris as Black celebrities got out of their limousines and walked the red carpet, smiling and waving for paparazzi. This was happening to Chris as Black celebs who talk about "Representation Matters" attended a function chaired by a Human Rights violator.

#USA — Jeff Bezos, the billionaire boss of Amazon and this year’s sponsor of the Met Gala, had Chris Smalls, a member of the Amazon Labor Union who wanted to protest the event, beaten by police.

palestine, sudan, congo, tigray, iran, lebanon, syria, yemen, cuba, west papua, black, brown, and indigenous people in america + likely more are all undergoing genocides or have been destabilized by past genocides and invasions. all for grotesque displays of wealth from elites.
Power to the People ☭🕊@ProudSocialist

70% of Americans are struggling to afford groceries, housing, and healthcare, and there is a genocide in Gaza and Lebanon. Fuck the Met Gala.

opportunity to support and help children in gaza receive somatic healing sessions:
The Sameer Project@sameerproject

Somatic healing finally started at The Sameer Project and we are very excited! Support our somatic sessions: chuffed.org/project/113327… The incredible Ibrahim did five group session with different boys in our camps, and 17 individual sessions. The key method used for the individual sessions was the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) that is a mind-body approach within somatic practices and contemporary energy psychology that works with the nervous system through mainly tapping on specific points on the body while focusing on emotional experiences, to reduce stress and support emotional regulation. For the group sessions, Ibrahim followed Ashira Darwish’s somatic techniques that are rooted in Islamic cultural background. As you can see in the video, the techniques used are not divorced from the cultural and religious roots in Gaza. During the somatic movements, the children repeat la ilaha ela Allah, meaning there is only one God. Additionally, Ibrahim uses the dehiyeh dance to help the boys release. Dehiyah is a traditional, celebratory Bedouin line dance often performed at weddings and festive occasions, characterized by rhythmic clapping, chanting, and a line formation. With the synchronized movement and clapping, you can see the joy in the boys faces. Many other techniques were used like sufi whirling, breathing and stillness. Ibrahim is trained in Somatics and EFT, and is supervised by Ashira Darwish and Iman Boundaoui. The Sameer Project will work closely with Ibrahim to develop his skill set and train others so that more Palestinians in Gaza can heal through movement. Our team at Techmed will deal with any cases referred by Ibrahim who need extra mental health support. Donate to the Refaat Alareer Campaign so we can do more somatic sessions: chuffed.org/project/113327… Other ways to donate include: paypal.me/mahertali (Paypal option, please make sure to add a message saying "Camp") account.venmo.com/u/Maher-Ali (Venmo option, please make sure to add a message saying "Camp")

Thinking about this post as I see images of millionaires and billionaires dressed in their most expensive frippery walking the red carpet at the MetGala which is chaired by one of the richest men in the world who makes his employees pee in bottles and die on factory floors.

the cashew industry is as exploited as the meat industry but instead of it harming and abusing animals it abuses and exploits human beings. a lot of vegan influencers and vegan outlets push cashews to be an alternative to dairy for making vegan cheese, milk, etc.

Veganism and meat consumption in the modern context are both two cheeks of the same ass. As someone who comes from a family of farmers who have been exploited by industries for as long as I remember, the real enemy is capitalism which makes the industries utterly dogshit.

An HIV-positive man with colon cancer, unable to work for four years, lived in his Los Angeles apartment for almost 25 years. He says he mailed his rent on time. The landlord said the check never arrived and filed for eviction. After a trial, a jury ruled he DID mail the payment, but since it wasn't cashed, they said he failed to pay on time. A judge ordered him out. Sheriff's deputies escorted him from his home of a quarter-century. He took his dog, Simba, and his clothes. He left behind his furniture, his blankets, his two TVs, and his beloved Madonna CDs. He's now homeless, sleeping on a friend's sofa. The system will evict a dying man over a payment dispute. But a corporation can squat in bankruptcy court for years? "That's a different matter entirely."
