"'Killer Queen' has always been a favourite of mine. It was something a bit more complex, an adventure in putting guitar harmonies into the solo. It was quite a step into the unknown, that solo, and it has a melody that I put in there which doesn’t appear anywhere else in the song. My dream was to use the guitar as an orchestra instrument, and I was lucky enough to make the dream come true. The 'Killer Queen' solo was the first time I really managed to get the harmony thing across, and all those harmonies move about, they’re not just following each other parallel - they all interact like a small jazz band would do. With 'Killer Queen,' it worked out so nice. I would probably put that forward as the one that perhaps I would want people to remember me by."

「お年寄りは、折り紙と塗り絵が好き」 介護業界に蔓延るこの呪い、そろそろ終わりにしないか。 介護の現場で働いてきて、ずっと強烈な違和感があった。 フロアに集められ、童謡を流され、ぽんぽんと風船を打ち合う時間。これに参加しないと「意欲低下」と記録される。 いや、ちょっと待ってくれ。 若い頃はバリバリ働いて、週末は競馬場で怒号を飛ばし、夜は酒をあおっていたような人が、施設に入った途端「ちゅーりっぷ」を歌って喜ぶと本気で思っているのか。 以前、ある80代の男性入居者が、スタッフから渡された塗り絵を床に叩きつけたことがあった。 「こんな子供騙し、やらせるな」と。 周りのスタッフは「認知機能の低下による易怒性」と片付けようとした。でも、違うと思う。プライドの問題。 僕は翌日、その人に競馬の専門紙を渡してみた。 すると、老眼の目を細めながら血統や過去のデータを見比べ、「この馬は前走のパドックがどうのこうの」と、僕と1時間以上も熱く語り合った。 その時のギラギラした目の輝き。これこそが「生きる意欲」じゃないだろうか。
