@taiyasaki @QiaochuYuan (Lie) Groups are central in geometric mechanics [Marsden and West 2001] with applications to robotics, fluid mechanics [Nabizadeh 2024], plasmas, and more! Basically it tells how to traverse a configuration space in a physical i.e., symmetry-preserving, way.

@QiaochuYuan Algebra (groups, rings, …). Not lost, but wondering what on earth were they having when they invented the topic. Always felt very abstract, and other than for definitions, never really found a practical application.
