@lagunabayfables I might notice if a chapter is longer than others if I’m trying to read a certain number of chapters in a day or something but it doesn’t bother me. I assume books will have some variation in chapter length honestly so I don’t think it’s an issue

do readers really notice if chapter lengths are inconsistent? when i read, i never really do, but some of my own book’s chapters are 3k while some are only 1.5k. is that an issue?

@sarahreesbrenna EXACTLY 👏🏾 I love romance, but I don't want readers to have certain expectations, and then be sad when they get something else because of unclear terminology

@query_queen339 Yes as a longtime romance reader I’m very aware of how they get dismissed, so I’m like ‘it’s not that I think I am too good for the label I just don’t want to disappoint you all!’

I'll never forget being on a Romantasy panel with 4 authors & the moderator asked if WE thought our books were romantasy. We all said no. I don't care if people call my books romantasy, but the unclear definition can set up readers to be disappointed in the romance/fantasy ratio

Don't get me wrong, I love seeing new readers finding my debut! But my dream is for readers years from now to reflect on my body of work as a whole, and see how much I've grown as an author. As much as I love my first born, I hope to love my future books even more

I want to grow and evolve as an author. I want every series I write to be better than the last. The author I was 4 years ago writing the 1st draft of SMTS is different from the writer I am now. And I hope the writer I am next year is better than the writer I am today

I love my debut. She accomplished more than I ever dreamed (4!! starred reviews, Sunday Times bestseller, pretty special editions, indie next/introduce, translated in multiple languages, etc.) AND YET, I sincerely hope Sing Me to Sleep is the worst series I ever write🧵

Something that drives me wild in movies/tv shows is when other people answer someone else’s phone. Who does this??? Do people answer other people’s phones?

@query_queen339 Okay. She’s not THAT unhinged. 🤣 I find her quite relatable, particularly in the murdering men part. Also, I need a book three where she finds more of her kind. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The MC from Sing Me to Sleep is an unhinged siren who enjoys murdering people for fun and I love her to pieces. But the MC in my next series, Reign of Shadows, is somehow more unhinged and I don't think people are ready for her
