Opinions please 🙏 Is it part of a teacher's job to teach social and emotional skills? Doing a bit of research for myself 😊

@WordAware No, just supporting a young person to understand the process and prepare for the meeting. There are so many ways the issues with language and social communication could affect both sides of the conversation that's it hard to know where to start

#mysltday Restorative Justice + language and social communication difficulties = a hard time all round. What an eye opening piece of work this is turning out to be

Do authorities regularly make up names and nationalities for people who are unable to communicate for themselves? This is so upsetting, the poor family, dealing with their missing, ill relative. What could have happened is terrifying. theguardian.com/world/2022/apr…

@zarahsultana This makes me feel physically sick, imagine what could have happened!! It is shocking how little understanding remains within really important services about additional needs and how to work with these. Depressing

A non-verbal black teenager was arrested by the police and detained by the Home Office, who prepared his deportation to Nigeria. But he’s a British citizen, who has never left Britain and was missing from a Kent hospital. How is that anything but horrific racism?

#mysltday Yesterday was another great day! Helped a caseworker to plan sessions on weapon awareness and peer pressure for a young person with DLD. General simplification of language wasnt working so we looked at other ways. One inspired caseworker, one satisfied SLT 😌

#mysltday Really useful meeting with the Digital Team to think about adapting all the communication that is shared with their young people. Learning all round! Lots of new ideas in my brain as well as feeling helpful. A good day 😌

As a therapist, I'm not here to fix or make better. That notion implies something is 'wrong'. It sits within a medical model. I'm here to help others achieve outcomes that are meaningful for them; to respect autonomy; to facilitate, not direct.

Leaving custody is really hard, jobs give not only funds to live but routine, a feeling of self-worth and a community around you. If you can help or know someone who can please do.

@JacquiLearoyd @LockedUpLiving I'm thinking mostly about the way you are involved with people on ACCTS and supporting staff and clients to think about reducing physical aggression and therefore the need for restraint. I'm wanting to do more that makes a real life difference and it feels like you are achieving
