1500 different folk have volunteered at Riverside parkrun in 550 events. We salute you 🫡🫡🫡. Well done to the 495 finishers this week and to the 38 volunteers for making the event incident free. A special thanks to the Wear Rivers Trust who boosted our volunteer numbers

Durham Foodbank sends huge thanks to all those able to donate at last Saturdays Riverside parkrun. There are lots of places to make donations and many of them easier than our park so thank you for your generosity. Donations for 2024, 278kg =350 Meals. Shame it’s needed but it is

Some personal news ⬇️ It’s with great pride, and some trepidation, that I’m letting you know my time as a parkrun staff member has come to an end. Fourteen years ago I gave up my safe and secure lecturing job to volunteer for this wonderful movement, and everyday since then I’ve been fortunate to enjoy the most incredible journey. Time and again we’ve faced challenges, as we’ve grown from a handful of events to over two-and-a-half thousand, from one country to over twenty, and from a few thousand people to many millions. Following Paul Sinton-Hewitt's lead, we’ve challenged accepted norms, found new and innovative solutions to complex problems, and worked tirelessly to bring parkrun to as many people as possible. Sitting here reflecting on my experiences, the clear common thread through every memorable moment however has simply been time spent with the most amazing people. The relationships that parkrun has brought me have enriched my life in ways I could never have imagined, restored my faith in humanity, and demonstrated time and again what incredible things we can achieve when we work together toward a common goal. As with all good things however, there comes a time to move on and explore new adventures. For me, that time is now, as with both excitement and nervousness in equal measure, I’m stepping into a new chapter of my life. I’d like to thank everyone who's put their trust in me over the years, stood by me when times have been tough, and pointed me in the right direction when I’ve wandered off course. Thank you. As for parkrun itself, whose journey I often think about in human years, I first experienced it when it was just two years old, I've seen it grow from a toddler to a teenager, and as it’s about to enter its twenties, the future is incredibly bright. I feel immensely proud that the experience parkrunners all around the world enjoy today is so similar to that of the first parkrun pioneers back in 2004, and I’m excited to continue my journey simply as parkrunner A6013. Saturdays are the highlight of the week. It’s a time to meet up with friends, get some exercise in and enjoy Riverside Park with like-minded people. We may be biased but I think what makes Riverside parkrun so special are the incredible volunteers!

An early heads up for parking this week. This Saturday 27th April is when the rowing club host a few other clubs. Therefore the rowing club car parks on the left will be closed off for boat and trailer access. There are plenty of parking spots on the other side of the road.

Wow I do get out and about with parkrun. Absolute privilege to be able to represent the North East parkrun Ambassador team, and fly the flag for HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) parkruns held within the custodial estate today at Downing Street #parkrun #hmpps 🫶🧡

Exciting news. As a Riverside parkrun participant and volunteer we have been missing one important element of the parkrun experience. The wait is over. CLS Amateur Rowing Club has opened a cafe and have invited us all to go over on Saturdays after parkrun for a cuppa/catch up

Today is blue Monday but we have just the cure! If you are a regular park runner make sure you wear red this Saturday to beat the blues ❤️ Why not check in on a friend tonight and invite them to come along with you on Saturday - you may make their monday less blue
